What's the deal with the (golden) heart of sword?

Why does it change names? It takes so much out of its charm, to buy the sword with "your" name on it, and then have it change to someone else's... anyone knows if this is a bug or a feature of the sword? for I've been playing this game for a couple of years and never noticed it having any use at all...

I was told before that it takes after your lead character. I don't know if its who physically leads or quest wise???

In IWD it's the one in front. So actually the char whose portrait is the leftmost. It either bears the name of the leader, or the wielder, I'm not sure now...

Actually, the way it works is that the sword is named after whomever approaches the vendor first. Now, in most cases this will be you lead character. However, in my party, my lead character was a Paladin, but I always made the effort the have my bard approach any vendors (better charisma, better prices etc etc). The sword was originally named after my bard, for that reason.
However, I experimented by having each of my characters approach the vendor. The sword's name changed to reflect whomever originally approached. (I was kind of hoping the weapon would change to reflect the character -ie my cleric would find it to be a mace as that was what was currently being used by her)

It's true what you say, but there are some bugs connected with the sword's name.
I found that when I talked with yquog to bring him the message he lost the name of the swoord changed, becoming that of the carachter who speaked with yqoug
