Ok I am pretty sure i am doing everything right... So please confirm for me I can blame dodgy chinese internet. Me and my friend (I am on a wireless network, He is using a 112k modem) want to play multiplater so I create the game, I set the proxy to tcp/ip and start a game. then i alt-enter the screen bring up command prompt and type ipconfig to find out my ip. Then i give him just my IP no (he doesn't need my subnet mask or default gateway does he?) and he types it in as 182.168.1.104 or something along those lines, and it won't connect... we are both running exactly the same version.. so what is going wroing?

You might make sure you are fully patched, and are using identical mods (if any). I seem to remember that a setting in the hardware config required a cache of 500 (or 300)... Someone will correct me, doubtless. The unpatched version of the game resets the cache every startup...
The only thing that I didn't see was hardware...
If you are using a router, you can't "host".
It might be something I don't know about, if that's not the case...
Just lug your PC to his place, and connect via Serial Ports...

Haha... yeh if only we were on the same continent... no-one round here seems to be hugely into crpg's, or speaks english..... will check out the cache thing. Thanks.

Itch, the way I did it is this:
Invited my friend through MSN, (he accepted), started the game, chose multiplayer and started a new game. There were no need to type IP adresses or anything like that.
If you use MSN or ICQ, I can help you try it out directly, if you'd like.
