Where do the names in the game come from

Ok. I have noticed, and I am sure most of you have done that too, that many names in the game are not an invention of the developers. Some of them were taken from history, people, and other events. Maybe some of the names are easter eggs in themselves and the developers assigned them to a character or a place for a reason.

Let's start a game to see what names can you find the origin of. I'm sure we shall discover many curious things and we can even learn some interesting stuff.

I'll start.

i didn't notice that
maybe you could give an example
well and you found out that the places Modoc and Klamath really exist/existed
what did you expect?
your wandering around in postnuclearwar North America
why should'nt the cities have prewar names

but i guess your right with your theory
i will keep an eye on that while playing the game

The interesting thing is that those places were founded and named many years after the world was blasted. :p

But couldnt those cities be named after prewar citie? I mean, they knew that those cities existed before the war, and therefore used those names

Or maybe they're named by history teachers with a Civil War tic.

No, they're the names of the real cities where the game takes place. Fallout and Fallout 2 are set primarily in California with a few locations in Oregon and Nevada.

Game Location - Real Location
Klamath - Klamath, OR
New Reno - Reno, NV
San Francisco - San Francisco, CA
L.A. Boneyard - Los Angeles, CA

There were a few more, but I can't remember them off the top of my head. I think a couple of the military installations were accurately located. The "military base" would be located in Maripose county, and there really is an AFB there I think. Remember when Sulik tells you about travelling from the Great Salt Lake? He's talking about Salt Lake City, UT of course.
