IWD II and magic

(I dont want to know exactly what are the best magic weapons..NO SPOILERS)

from my previous experience in BG II I know that magic weapons make quite a different difference in chars ability.

I want to use good weapons so is a Paladin limited to 1 great weapons like holy avenger in BG II, if that is the case then I would rather have a plain fighter and have a choice between a few weapons.

You dont need to tell me exactly what weapon to get and where (I dont want to know) but generally what makes a fair bit of difference to a char.

there are a number of weapons and other items that are only usable by certain classes/alignments There are a few paladin only weapons, and chances are that if you also have a Barb/Fighter/Ranger and a cleric you will be able to make use of most of the items in the game. There are also some Duid specific items and a few Bard only instruments that are quite useful. Try and psread out your allignments a litle too.

for paladins.. there is some sort holy avenger in this game(long blade)
+realy nice hammer..(wich has gods name in it)
+2-handed trhowing axe :) it is not so good weapon... but hey it is just damn cool...

+then there is armor for every high dex chars... (that poor wild elf...)

but in IWD2 in later parts game you will find good weapons and armors for every type of weapon...

Hi

so are Paladins kind of limited in the magical weapons they can use?...why have a Paladin at all, why not have a simple fighter?

I was told Paladins can get some special quests but apart from that..?

don't know about the quests, but I'd surely choose fighter over paladin b/c of their alignment restrictions (I mentioned this in another thread, I believe). And, paladins have some spells, but can't use them while wearing heavy armor...

I just didnt want to see all these great magic items that my Paladin wouldnt use because of 1 great sword...like BGII

can you have a fighter/barbarian class so a fighetr will have the ability to rage...

Well a paladin has some nice bonuses and I don't understand why you don't want to use it because of the existence of some good specific weapons?
In BG2 there is Carsomir that only palladin can wield (and thief with UAI), but you are not obliged to use it (in fact in ToB I often give my paladin different weapon combos), so also in IWD2 take a paladin and let him hse whatever you like, but you will always keep the option to switch to the special weapon.

the rules in IWD II are so different that I am still trying to learn them. So my logic to some people may seem odd but I am a newbie and are still learning

READ MANUAL... if you have read manual, read it onetime more... Rules in IWD2 are way better than in BG...

IMO, character creation is hard. It's hard trying to pick out the right party for you to play. But that's one of the good things about IWD2. You can pretty much take any party through it and the degree of difficult will change or cause you to change tactics. With the way IWD2 handles multi-classing, there is no limit to what you can do with your characters.
And, paladins have some spells, but can't use them while wearing heavy armor...
Paladins of Helm and Ilmater don't cast arcane spells, so they can cast spells, just as Priest do, without spell failure. Paladins of Mystra cast both arcane (Wizard levels) and not arcane spells (Paladin levels).
