Nwn Platinum

I am in the third chapter of NWN and loving it. I saw that NWN Platinum was actually cheeper than buying the expansion packs individually so I picked it up today. Can I install Platinum without losing where my character and the story are now or should I wait until it's completely done? Don't want to lose what I have so far.
