PC Gamer magazine reveals in a new hands-on preview for the upcoming first person action-RPG Vampire: The Masqerade - Bloodlines that there will not be a multiplayer mode for the Trokia-Activision game. Despite some hints in earlier previews that a multiplayer mode was being considered, the decision was made to focus on Vampire's single player game experience.

i really wanted to be able to play this game online

well half life has counter-strike and valve is hoping for mods that will allow people to play deadmathes etc (basicly all the online games they were to lazy to create themselves!)
so it isn't the engine

Very disappointing!
Hubby and I were looking forward to the multiplayer version...considering we met online in VtMR.

I just think it sucks! I just finished re playing the first game and still think it's a wonderful game. But now in first person??!! No MP?! How is this game going to be different to a shooter!!!??? I think Troika just messed up again (and when I say again I say it because of their temple of Elemental Evil fiasco) I just hope they dont give us a shooter instead of a RPG and a game full of Bugs like ToEE.

Different from a shooter? Well, Morrowind is a FPS singleplayer CRPG, and it has no similarities to a shooter, even making allowances for the type of weaponry involved. What really matters is what they do with what they've got. For example, the final results could be rather like KotoR in which you still lead a party, but view things from the perspective of any given party member.
We'll just have to wait and see.

Actually, I think this is a Good Thing (tm). I personally have no interest in playing multiplayer. And hopefully this will mean that the Troika team will be able to concentrate on getting single player 100%.

It's not that kind of game. (Heh) Seriously, the graphics on this game will be too sophisticated to waste on the Everquest crowd. The reason they gave this game FPS mode was to showcase this radical animation technique, where the facial expressions of the npcs change while you are talking to them, showing their emotional reaction to your words. That would be wasted on multiplayer at this point in time, because there is no way to pick up on transmit emotions through the internet (yet)... emoticons are nothing compared to morphing facial expressions.
See what I mean?

What was wrong with the first game! in the first place, I think it was a great third person RPG. Why did they have to change it!? Why fix it if it ain't broken...
