Fears of joining the vampires

Hi!
This must be the seventh time I play Baldur's Gate II now, and to change a bit I've decided to join the vampires instead of the Shadow Thieves. The problem is that I am a thief, and I'm running Maevar's guild at the docks. I suppose both things are unconciliable, but perhaps it is possible to run the guild and join the vampires at the same time... have any of you tried it? Can it be done without negative consecuences? Please, let me know.
Thanks!

Normally it isn't possible, but I think the multi-stronghold module of Ease-of-Use will change that.

The game disallows you from siding with the Vampires and Thieves at the same time. A fellow (Arkanis or something) with a +10 sword will appear and kill your party. IIRC, this cannot be prevented with any mods or game editors.

Arkanis

It seems so, although I have never sided with both parties simultaneously. I did an advanced search in this forum and uncovered many threads on Arkanis. He has some other roles to play apparently.

I could be wrong on this, but I’m pretty sure I’m right.

You can take the Thief stronghold and then join up with the vampires, but you will then immediately lose the stronghold.

Basically if you give money to Aran Lindval for help rescuing Imoen then you have accepted the thieves guild offer, no turning back. Killing Mae’ Var and taking on the Thief stronghold has nothing to do with taking the thieves offer to rescue Imoen.

Also, if you accept the vampires offer first (by paying money) then you can’t get the Thief stronghold. So do Mae’ Var and the stronghold first.

Also, if your planing on joining the vampires do not kill any of them in the city random encounters. If you do then they assume you've sided with the thieves. They won't bother you until you've made a decision.

At the moment I'm just doing the minor quests without bothering about joining the Thieves or the Vampires... Of course I'm being completely neutral in the fight between the two parties. I'm running the guild and it seems there are not complications... Let's see how long I can do that...
So, that guy Arkanis attacks you if you have joined the vampires and still want to run the guild? I think he appears later on in the game... does not he join your party when you are about to defeat Bodhi?

You don't get anyone called Arkanis on your team, I'm sure of that.

That would be Drizzt.

edit: oops, I was thinking of a different part of the game. Themoot is once again correct ;)

If you take the theives to spellhold, when you come back you can talk with aran linvail. He will say that he will give you help attacking the vampires. When you are in the main room of the vampire lair, three or four thieves show up, including arkanis gath. They provide a needed distraction for the 12 vampires in the room. They walk out the front door of the lair after you defeat the vampires in that room.

Yeah, that's it. You are joined by that fellow, a paladin and Drizzt.

Drizzt and comapany, Arkanis and some shadow thieves, and a group of Paladins from the Radiant Heart are all potentially available to help with the Bodhi fun 'n games
