This is going to sound really stupid but: I am renting out houses to people but I don't seem to be able to get any money from it

I heard you should go to the signpost outside the house to collect rent, but when I go there there are two, one asking me to decorate it, and the other to sell or stop renting it out.

It takes days. (game time)
First you have to wait long enough for somebody to move in.
Once they have moved in the 1/3 of the rent appears everyday.
So visit the rental house every 3 days to pick up the full rent.

How do I know if somebody moved in? I went there yesterday and found a woman there asking me to marry her

renting
it's automatic - after 2 or three days, there will be a renter
wait another day to start collecting rent
note: the maximum rent (at a time) is only three days
if you wait longer, you still only get three days rent, so check it regularly

if you want to get more money from your houses heres a trick.
1.go to knothole glade glade, buy the house and FULLY decorate it.
2.break down the door whilst you are living in it(you get no fine)
3.put your 2 best trophies on the plates(j o b's mask and champion seal)
4.sell your house
5.walk back in take down your trophies
6.go back out and buy it
7.then repeat
i dont no if this is already here but i haven't look through all the threads yet so.......

You can also buy shops and other houses which usually are owned by other people, I done this without getting bad points for it because I didn't kill them. Basically you need to know who lives in a house, for example the hair dresser at bowerstone south, you get her to follow you and you leave bowerstone ad take her somewhere that has alot of enemies (like greatwood lake) and you put her in the line of fire of the enemy attacks, so they kill her.
Head back to Bowerstone and you can buy her shop, the same is for any other house or ship in Fable as well...which is good if you like a house that is already occupied.

My Town
Whenever I first got to Oakvale I bout my house and then I started killing people and stealing/selling items and bought another house. I now own the whole town from collecting all the rent and then buying another with the money I have gained from the rent. To do this I just go to bed 6 times in a row which is 3 days, collect all the money from the houses, and do it again. The shops don't gain very much money for you. Other towns like HookCoast will gain you a lot more rent than Oakvale I noticed. If you just bought a house and started renting it, then you will have to go to sleep 8 times ie for the extra day for a tenant to come.

You dont have to kill off the shop owners either.
Just marry them. Once you are married and move into the marital home the shop becomes available for sale. This is how I own the barber shop in Barrowstown South.
