ToB- Spoilers wanted!

For the end of ToB, I've heard that the PC becomes a god. I'm writing bgfic and therein is the dilemma.
I don't want to become a god! I want to live a long, normal life with Jaheira like I said I would.
Is there a way to refuse godhood, or is it ascension, willing or not? (grrr... why a child of Bhaal??)
