Question about weapon speed

from what i understand, the faster it is, the smaller the number, when i put kachiko's wakizashi and kundane on (both of which is 0), my number of attacks is 4, when i switch on the adjatha (which is 3) and take off kachiko, the number of attacks becomes 7/2, what does 7/2 mean? 7 one hand and 2 the other? if thats the case, then my total attacks are going to be 9, which means that adjatha+kundane is faster, which will contradict the weapon speed... i have 2 stars in scimitar and short sword and 1 star in long sword.
hope someone can clear it up for me, thank you.

Weapon speed is irrelevant to the number of attacks and determines who strikes first. 7/2 attacks mean you make 7 attacks in 2 rounds, or 3.5 attacks every round.

If you want to get really technical, Weapon Speed affects Initiative. Initiative is the order of actions within any given combat round. AFAIK, the Initiative rolls are hidden in BG2, and are not displayed, even with the highest level of feedback switched on.

In 2nd Ed, initiaitve is rolled on a D10 (ten sided dice) and the lowest number has first action. It is calculated thusly:

Initiative = D10 - Dex bonus + Weapon speed ( +/- incidentals such as Haste, Slow, etc).

Also, unlike 3rd Ed, initiative is generated every round (at least in the PnP version, I'm not sure how BG2 does it). Furthermore, all of your actions happen on your initiaitve, so if you have more than one attack, they all occur at once.

As Grandpa said, 7/2 is your attacks per round, and this is not affected by initiative.

Cheers!
