Experiences with cleric/thief

I plan to go through the entire series again, from Bg to ToB. Of course, I would like to have a game experience that's different from my other ones as much as possible, so I was thinking about playing, or even soloing, a Cleric/Thief.

One disadvantage seems to be that the thieving button is hidden behind the special abilities button. Also, like the F/M/T, there is only one weapon slot. For a F/M/T that wouldn't be much of a problem but for a C/T it would be, because you won't melee a lot but you would like to backstab. That means you'd have to switch weapons on a regular basis.
On the other hand, you would have a char with a lot of abilities, but he would never be an uberchar because he lacks offensive power.

I did some searching on this board but the C/T isn't mentioned all that much. Did anyone ever take a C/T through an entire game? Or the series? Is there a way to make cleric- and thievingabilities complement eachother? I'd like to hear your thoughts.

A cleric/thief is limited to the weapons a cleric can choose and none of these can be used for backstabbing so you will not be doing that an awful lot anyway.

I've took the character trough BG2 and played one in BG1, i have to say that the 1 weapon slot in BG1 is very annoying, and i think it will be a VERY hard soloing character (although summons are nice).
I also find it an hard roleplay character but thats just me.

I never use anything but swords and missile weapons when I play a Thief, but are you sure you can't backstab with a club or a quarterstaff? I seem to recall hearing great things about the Staff of Striking.

You can backstab with any melee waepon a thief can use (so this includes stafes and clubs.
The staff of striking is the BEST backstab weapon (most damage) a thief can use in both BG1 and BG2.

Before you put your hands on the staff of the Ram in ToB.

That's funny, because I'm contemplating about the same issue.

I've just downloaded tutu and fixes and decided to go through the whole series again. I also plan to do this with a party of no more than 3 characters. I guess I will remove the XP cap in order to balance the small number of party members. We'll see how that affects the overall game balance.

Now my question is: Will I play C/T, F/M/C or F/C?

DC F/C
An old favorite class of mine (my all time favorite class is of course MC F/T, but Coran is very good already and I will go through BG1 first). An old, harmless man with a staff, dualed somewhere at very high level. On the other hand, DC means long term investment and I'm in for immediate fun at the moment. :o

MC C/T
Very interesting, played it before in BG2, but what sets me up is that gnomes have a max WIS of 17 for a start. On the other hand, there are three WIS tomes to have. And gnomes are cool, aren't they?

MC F/M/C
Wellllll ... , in theory, this one is a real killer at high levels (but would only reach a capped level of 6/6/7 in TotSC, IIRC). I never liked half elves, but I would compromise in this case. Maybe with Coran as the only other party member or with him and an additional tank in case things get too ugly? I guess I'll give this one a shot :D
