Daystar Sunray

Gidday all,

So I managed to obtain Daystar last night (for the first time too, gotta love the GB walkthroughs!) and my main character (NG Half-Elf Bard) is weilding it as her primary weapon.

My question is - how do I activate the Sunray special effect? There is nothing under the Specials button, just her Bhaal abilities. I've whacked a few vampires with it, and it does seem to do some nice damage... But the Sunray...?

Oh, I'm Modded to the Max, with Unfinished Bus, Ascension, Ease-of-Use, Baldurdash, Banters, Oversight, Extra Items - if any of that stuff affects it.

Thanks all!

You should have a button near the middle that looks like a backpack - that's the one you use to access the special abilities of any equiped items.

D'oh! I'm a nooble-head! Of course, I should have thought of that.

Cheers!

Never mind the vamps in Firkraag's dungeon - my party got jumped by a groupof three vamps one night (the wandering monster vamps who are beating up Shadow Thieves) and Elyssia (my PC) used Daystar...

Wow!! Like 1050hp dam to each vamp!! My jaw hit the desk, let me tell you.

I lurve my Daystar. This sword is a part of me. Let me make it a part of you... :D

Cheers,

It's a bug. It's not suppose to go 1k+ damage.

Though, for a cool graphic effect, try this.

1. Go to the unseeing eye quest area with the riddle bridge.

2. Answer the second question wrong a couple dozen times.

3. Lure the skeletons down the stairs and as they begin to surround your character, have that character turn invisible.

4. Activate sunray and watch the fireworks. That's my current wallpaper. Every time i see it, it reminds me of resident evil. :)

It's not a bug. Sunray as a chance of instantly killing any undead creature, and since undead are immune to most instant death effects (I think that's hardcoded in the game engine) the spell just does insane damage (1k+) to achieve 'instant death' ;)

Personally, i dont recall there being a instill-kill effect with sunray, but i still doubt it. If what you say is true, the game developers could have easily programmed in an added death-effect. To reconfigure it to deal 1k damage, and have the damage bypass magic-resistance (where it applies) seems rather inconvenient.

However, I dont doubt the possibility of it. They may as well have did it intentionally for amusement or something. 1k IS a frighteningly large amount!

Most Undead are not immune to insta-kill. I've smashed them instantly with the Mace of Disruption and cut them in half with the Azureedge Axe many times before.

its simple enough, create an account, then post up the site url (specificly for the image)

Also a nice way to do it is by typing:

Code: Select all

@Miser
I'd love to see that screenie! :) I've already completed that quest with this group, so it would have to wait for my next bunch.

@Klorox
Aye, me too. Minsc throwing Azuredge about like a rabid pixie on a sugar high can take out undead faster than Anomen can turn them. It's great to watch!

Cheers all,

Daystar is a nice weapon, but you'll find better swords, but always keep Daystar in one of your weapon slot, so you can still use the spell ability (that is the main use of the sword).

Cant do it. Netscape wouldnt let me upload pics over 30k, so you'll have to take it by email or something if you still want it. :)

Save it as a jpeg instead of a bmp. - or a gif.

Umm I'm sure netscape holds 1meg file max, I have 30k + files on my one.

actually, it's 1.3 mb about. it's a screenshot, and only loadable from paint.exe. :mad:

that's okay, no biggie really. it had 4 fire elementals going head-to-head against several dozens of skeletons, with Nalia in the middle, who i used to activate Daystar, a HUGE donut shaped fire in the middle. :)

@lompo
A bard only has two weapon slots! Currently she is using a bow, Daystar and the +3 mace you find in the Underdark. But this means I have to swap the bow out every time I get into melee. A little slow, that is.

I meant that you'll find better weapons, and once you find them the only reason to keep Daystar is for the spell; thus you can give the weapon to anybody has a free weapon slot and he will be able to cast the spell even if the weapon is not equipped, while you will be using a better weapon: think of FoA, C.F., Crom, MoD (vs. undead), Equalizer etc..
