What do you consider would be the worst party? (Or, if not the actual worst, the people you would least like to have in your party.)
I'd go with:

Cernd - A solid choice. Not much use except when shapechanged.
Haer'Dalis - I don't know how good or bad he is as such, but I wanted to take his ego and strangle him with it within minutes of speaking to him. Most irritating NPC in the game. I took great pleasure in telling him to bog off back to wherever he came from.
Yoshimo - It's true he has decent thief abilities, but I prefer Jan in that capacity. Also, he seems to run away from combat at the earliest opportunity regardless of what AI you assign him, so not much use as a fighter either. Last, but not least, what he does in Chapter 4 would also weaken your party overall.
Anomen - Another one whose ego is too large to fit in the same room as him. Not too bad in combat but not great either, and there are several much better fighter types (Keldorn, Korgan, Minsc) and a better cleric (Viconia).
The fifth and final choice is a bit trickier for me as all the NPCs that are left have some merit. At a pinch I'd probably say Aerie, because she has poor HPs and is more likely to snuff it than anyone else. She whines a heck of a lot too.

As for the protagonist, I'm not sure which class I would least like to play. Pure Druid perhaps. Not a lot going for it that I can see. Assassin doesn't do a lot for me either.

I rather prefer playing as Druid.... the Stronghold quest doesn't last very long but still the druid is a solid choice for me....

I say, take that druid and dual him to a fighter. Druids are kick-a$$ but limited by level/xp. With the tight weapons they make great dualled fighters with super defensive spells.

Why does everyone hate Cernd? If you don't get Keldorn, give the gauntlets of dex to Cernd and he's great. 18 wis makes a great NPC cleric/druid.

Worst possible party? That's easy.

Keldorn, Failed knight Anomen, Airie, Korgan, Viconia and pure thief protagonist.

The party will be at an all time low when it comes to keeping together and most of them will fight and harass eachother. Being a pure thief as a PC is a very bad idea since there's no benefit from having more than 99% in a thief skill, wich leaves you a lot of points just to waste, and the character would be weak in all other areas of the game except just thieving. Atleast a pure druid could toss some handy spells around but a pure thief will be forced to be a cowardly backstabber or a mere archer in the late game.

Relevant points Thomas. Minor Q though - I think points greater than 99 do count.

If you pickpocket with someone they usually get caught, even at 99. Drink potion(s) of mastertheivery up to 140/180 points and they usually don't.....

Hide in shadows helps, too. At 99, you often can't hide in daylight. At 140, you're in the shadows anywhere. Swashbucklers are pretty tough at high levels. Assassins rock when you get 7x backstab. Bounty hunters traps are cool at high levels.
Besides, us cowardly backstabbers do pretty well.

Bah! I so I was wrong about 99% being the topnotch for a thief but I think that even the most diehard pure thief fan will agree that by level 21 you have a lot of points that have gone into skills you no longer need.

And Gruntboy kind of added another aspect of this namely that there are a number of items in the game that boost thiefing skills considerably thus further making the pure class thief a not-so-needed figure in any party.

And Rail... When I wrote pure thief I meant thief with no kit, hence he or she is "purely thief". At high levels the three thief kits allows for devastating abilities (my elven swashbuckler was more powerful than I had imagined at the end game thanks to all the boosts and ability to dualwield).

It's still cowardly to stab someone in the back though so blah!

Agree. That's why I always dual my thief to fighter. Or mage (imoen).

worst party? start as a beastmaster (sounds kind of kinky anyway) pick up Cern and Anomen (give them both weapons that they have no proficiency in) head to trademeet and CTR.Q on Neeber. Complete the game with these jokers and let me know how it goes. Irenicus is likely to fall over laughing at you.

Better off...why not give them weapons that they can't use....(they're useless anyway).....and then you could tell me how things go too

What can they use anyway- Anomen is the only hopeful knight that can't use a sword, and Cernd can only use, what was it again? shovels and rakes?

No, no, Cernd can use branches ('the root of the problem' heh heh) and sticks.
