scars and skin appearance

Does anyone else`s character look like a giant, walking scar?
My first time through the game I was playing a fighter character on the good side of alignment, I was spending xp whenever I could and was taking all the boasts I could to try and bring in cash (and by far the easiest boast was to do quests naked). I wasn`t all that practiced, and I would just get myself torn up when surrounded by groups of enemies. So, halfway through the game, my character looked like a gray-haired, decrepid, walking scar; he had scars covering both sides of his face, all over his chest, and down his back. Well, I for one don`t think that looks very cool, at least not for the goody-goody pretty boy look I was going for with my first character.
So my second time through, I`ve been playing as an evil archer/witchhunter type, and I am halfway through the game, my only experience spent was used to buy slow time (so my character is still 18, even though I think his skin is starting to wrinkle or get veins, either from using magic or being evil) and most remarkable to me, I have only been hit TWO TIMES (once by whisper in the beginning while I wasn`t paying attention, didn`t notice the scar until later, and once by one of the bandits that surround you during the fight with twinblade, and I didn`t feel like doing the whole thing over) that have been recorded with a SAVE WORLD or SAVE HERO, and I still have a HUGE, UGLY three-striped SCAR across more than half of my face. I know scars don`t affect my appearance stat, but I hate them (none of the characters shown in the in-game preview have scars, not even the horned evil ones, or magically glowing ones) and don`t want them. So is there any way to get rid of scars? Can you prevent them by always wearing armor, and prevent them on your face by wearing a helmet when you go a-fighting? Or do you have to never EVER get hit in order to keep from having them? I know you can decrease your age at the temples of Avo and Skorm, and that if you are fat you gradually get thinner by not eating, but scars do not seem to fade from what I have seen.
Also, has anyone noticed characters tanning in sunlight, or paling in moonlight? I heard that they did, but both my good character and my evil character seem to have really pale skin, even though I`ve left them naked in the sun for entire daylight cycles.
Other questions I have about character appearance are: is it true that tattoos fade as you age? How many xp do you need to put into magic before you start getting the magic runes or whatever on your body? does buying Will skills age you faster than other skills, or does using will abilities age you? If you are evil, does your horn size increase with age (my second character is only 18 because I only bought slow time, and is almost all the way evil but his horns are as small as the day he got them).
Any observations or suggestions on how to finely tune a character`s appearance are appreciated.
Thanks
