Not played it in awhile....but will again soon.
Anyway as follows
left mouse=use(attack,pick up etc)
right mouse=menus
W=forward
S=back
A=straft left
D=straft right
Space=activate
thats the basic keys there are a few more,not sure if you have played any first person shooters if you have you can see the controls are just about the same.
Also if you computer can handle it you can get better resolution than on the x-box.
Hope this helps.

I don't think it will take you long to get used to it.
Just to let you know there is alittle patch that if the hit the Q key it locks you in run mode which comes in handy on them long trips..

I think someone else asked this once, but I'd say GO FOR IT. I own PC, played X-Box, and DEFINITELY would say it's better on PC. Even if you don't want to mod, the interface is SO much more streamlineable (the word of the day).

Has anyone ever tought about the options screen

It has a nice little tab that makes you change your controls to whatever you like. Currently i've set my controls to more shooter-based buttons, like WSAD for walking, E for using and Space for jumping.
About your 2nd question: the Construction Set is briljant, and only that is a reason to buy this game. The incredible amount of mods (4000+ and still counting) and the ease of use of TES:CS lets you create a game just like you want it. It still takes some practice, though.

I did the exact opposite as you did moltovir... in CS and Thief 3 I set Space to use and E to jump.

you can use joypads, althought i found it quite difficult to control using it for morrowind since i still had to use the mouse and keyboard at times

I really don't find the mouse controls bad. However, I use an optical trackball, which makes everything *much* easier. You can buy a good Microsoft optical trackball for about $40 Cdn.
I don't really care for a lot of MS stuff; I usually prefer Logitech. But, in this regard they have done a great job
Check these links for info on the Trackball

I have also reconfigured the control keys. I programmed "Q" as Sneak (and I made "B" whatever "Q" formally did), the right "Enter" key as Quicksave, "C" as Run, and the "5" on the number pad brings up my quick key panel.
Being able to do this makes things far easier.
You can also also set your options for "always use best attack" which eliminates having to use "A" and "D" as strafe keys. Less challenging, but considerably more ergonomic.

Lost Guardian, be sure that your PC has at least 500 MB RAM and a 2 GB CPU before investing in the game for the mods. I had 256 MB RAM, and while that ran the basic game reasonably well, mods slowed it to a crawl. I've subsequently purchased a faster CPU with 1 GB RAM and a reasonably decent video card (9600 Radeon), with results that are incredible. At the moment I've got 170+ mods running without any problems--no crashes, no slowdowns.

What's a 2GB CPU?

Should have written 2 GHz, rather than GB; speed, rather than capacity, is the issue.

CPU matters not, anything better than 1Ghz would work fine.
It is that 512MB+ RAM and graphics card that really makes a difference.

Not so: CPU does matter, though after a different fashion than memory.
To make a rather broad and crude distinction, memory allows you to add in more mods. But when you move between the many small areas that load in MW, the speed of your CPU governs the speed of those loads. If your CPU is slow, it's going to take much longer to load the relevant area files, even if your memory can handle them all.
