Multiplayer Interrupted by Strangers

Hi all, I usually play multiplayer by myself so I can use 3 created characters and have room for 3 NPC's in the party for flavour. Anyway, I usually play with the internet disconnected so that nothing slows me down however today I was playing with the net connected because I had MSN messenger running as well. Well, to my surprise other players were interrupting my game and asking me what level I was doing and so on. This doesn't really bother me but I am curious as to how they search my IP to connect to my game. I know that I can connect to anothers IP if I KNOW their #, but how are these people searching me? I have played online before years ago using gamespy and it wasn't all that bad, however I went there today and it looked pretty confusing. Is gamespy the only way or is there a nice easy way to search for an IP of an active multiplayer game. I want to play online again in the future but lost all my high level guys to a computer virus so I'll be building up some new guys for a while. Any tips would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

First of all, there's no need to play the game as multiplayer. Create your custom party within multiplayer, and save the game. Exit to windows, and go to your BGII folder (by default C:\Program Files\Black Isle\BGII SoA). You'll see a mpsave and a save folder. Go into the mpsave, find the save game folder you just created, and copy it to the save folder. Then start the game up in singleplayer, and reload your game.

Thank you for replying. I am aware of the possibility of swapping saves between singleplayer and multiplayer, however if I leave the save in multiplayer I can sub characters in and out at will, therefore having a 'party' greater than six. Before I lost my files last time I had like ten guys and subbed them in and out as I saw fit, and doing the roleplaying in my head. Eg) "Darius will meet us in Trademeet, and the Friar will head back to the guild." It makes it 10x more fun for me to have this option. Do you have any info about searching IP addresses for multiplayer?

Sorry, I don't know anything about searching for IP addresses. The only other tip I can give you is to make sure you put a password on your game ...

Thanks for the invite . . . but I HAVE joined that one. Can't wait actually.
P.S. I guess I was suprised because I hadn't signed up for gamespy but people were finding me anyways. I figured that there was another way . . .
