Stealing from a temple?

On behalf of Yoshimo, yours truly (a chaotic good fighter/mage) has sought out this Renal Bloodscalp guy... and he wants you to steal some sort of statue from the temple of Lathander. Problem is, I can't get it without setting off an alarm that causes every Lathander priest in the area to become hostile... I heard that if of good alignment, you have to steal from Talos-- but I'm good! What is this?!

I haven't done the quest yet, or recieved it but I have gone there and my curiousity got the best of me, so I picked the lock and the guards all went hostile. I soloed em all with my lvl 15 fighter.(my thief picked the lock) I have 20 reputation, and when I killed them, I didn't lose any reputation. I have a patch(not sure which one) and I don't have any other patches but a romance patch that lets me have all 3 romances O=)

Yes, you can either kill off the whole temple without any real consequencies or you can just go there at night, and do it the silent way.

Generally if you're good you get Talos and evil gets Lathander. However the overall composition of your group seems to be a factor as well. When I went there with my CG barbarian who had Yoshimo, Korgan, and Viconia in his group I got the Lathander quest.
As mentioned, just wait until night...unless you want to kill them all.

i think it is not determined by the alignment, but by the reputation
10 or + you get the talos quets
9 or - you get lathander quest
