What does Infravision do for you in the game? I know that it is supposed to enable you to see heat correct? But as far as game play wise is there any real advantage to infravision?
Thanks

I think it allows you to see further away when it is dark.

It is one of those spells, like Detect Evil, which are great to avoid.

Well...
It's a great ability in PnP, fairly useless in BGII.

I love Detect Evil, at least more than the lesser spells like acid arrows!

unlike infravision, perhapse the only spell in the game utterly useless, detect evil has an excellent use...
infravision is an utterly useless spell, since you get the same effect having elves, or half elves in the party...or dwarves, i think...
but detect evil can be used to "scan" a area you're not familiar with, or see if any hostiles are left in the area, since even if a creature makes its save vs the spell, at high feedback, you will still get a roster of whatever evil creatures are still in the area. i certainly use it all the time...
best of all paladins get it for free, making keldorn my detector...even works on liches, if i recall correctly...

You mean that after having played seventeen times, you still need a spell to tell you what lies ahead?
I love Detect Evil, at least more than the lesser spells like acid arrows!
Really? What the heck did I miss playing all this time without it? I think I used the spell only once, when my pc was a paladin and he had to use that particular spell to solve some minor stronghold quest.

Agreed. I used Detect Evil a few time just as novelties to see what NPC’s were evil or not. But, it’s not like I already didn’t know.

Its good for seeing if you can kill npc's without taking Reputation hits. And for the new comer to the game (no one starts knowing it all) it is really usefull.
But yeah, infravision is so poor, they really should have removed it, or upgraded it.

So within the framework of the BGII game is there no use for not just the spell, or the Helm of Infravision, or elvish infravision? If you have infravision do you erase the fog of war or whatever it is called faster?

Infravision makes characters glow red when it's dark. I believe that's the only purpose of it.

When fighting in a dark area, or at night, characters without Infravision are at -2 to hit when using bows and other missile weapons. Characters with Infravision (elves, half-elves, dwarves, gnomes and half-orcs) avoid this penalty.
As a spell it is quite useless. As a free ability, it's not bad. I certainly would not keep the Helm of Infravision on a human NPC's head (Keldorn, Anomen, etc.) in preference to one of the many other excellent helms.
Cheers,
TGHO

I have found one good use for infravision...
When you are in a certain area, sometimes you miss seeing people hiding under shelves etc. it highlights them. Although we all now were to look out for people, sometimes they move around and are hard to find

Juste pause the game and a red/blue circle will surround the enemy (Feedback).
