I have gotten the feat cleave for some of my characters, but I have no idea when it would work. Can anyone elaborate upon its usefullness and function?

If you kill monster and you have this feat.. you will do attack to enemy monster.. But you cant move.. + it is done with same weapon and attack roll as did the blow that killed first monster.. With greater cleave there is no limits how much you can use it per round

When you pick a feat, you can find its exact description on the right.

Roughly: if you manage to kill a monster, you're allowed to make an extra attack to the monster closest to you (you can't move, as Wrath said) and that attack is done by the same stats that the one killed the previous monster.

Don't know how useful this is, I never used it. I think there are much better feats out there (like Improved Initiative and Improved Critical, let alone the weapon proficiencies) to waste skill ponts on this one :p

Improved Iniative isn't realy critical to warriors.. but for Spell casters it is must..

.

...cleave is by far not that powerfull as in TOEE with a reach weapon...

...but there are some combinations where I would take cleave:

- for a melee PC with much STR and multiple attacks and or wielding a 2-handed weapon and or a good crit. range:

...means a tank dealing massive amounts of damage - and killing many enemies in melee this way...

- a PC with a large weapon (more enemies in weapon-range !)

- or a spellsword tank using black blade of disaster

btw. with a melee PC you should have enough feats to take cleave - not the best one - but there are not so many better melee feats.

does imp. crit work ?

...or does anyone has a link to a fix ß

(I heard there should be some kind of temporary one - but don't know where)

Yes it does.. well it has worked for me since IWD2 came out.. but for most people it works only after 2.01 patch..

It is easy to try out with DaleKeeper.. You need to have 2 same class spell casters and then command them to cast same spell at same time.. (other has that feat and other doesn't)

This is most easiest way to find out does it work or not.. good test spell would be fireball..

Cleave is a great early Feat as it effectively allows you an extra attack on any round you kill and enemy as long as there is another one in striking distance. Best used on tanks with 2 handed weapons of course, but pretty good on Dual Wielders too, especially in the early game. A level 2 fighter with dual weilding and cleave often gets 3 attacks a round against small opponents like Goblins etc as you often fight many at a time and one good hit is enough to kill most.

Don't bother with Greater Cleave. I think I only ever made use of it once in the game. Cleave DOES give you a way of getting past the max. number of attacks cap inthe game though. Most of the time you get a max of 4 melee attacks a round no matter how high your BAB is (you can have 5 if you dual weild, are Hasted or using a weapon that grants additional attacks). Cleave allows one extra attack, often at a good BAB, so you can get 6 attacks with this Feat. It's good for any melee attacker, but don't bother on archers, scouts and so on. At high levels it is actually worth using Power Attack with this feat as your last attack or two will probably not hit but your first one almost definitely will. If that attack kills it's opponent, you get another one at the same BAB.

this is IWD2 not TOEE

Cleave is a very good feat it gives you a free attack every time you kill something
