Killing the 5 Camonna Tong

Hey all--
Having a problem with Larrius Varro's quest to kill the 5 Camonna Tong: I can't seem to taunt any of them into attacking me, and when I pickpocket one and subsequently kill them all, the Hlaalu guards have a death sentence on me. I am only a member of the Fighter's Guild, not Thieves. Am I missing something?

Thanks.

Am I missing something?
Yup :) An invisibility spell. Cast it once outside, and wing it back to the Lucius Varro, watch out for the guards, and dont talk to ANYONE. When you settle things with monsieur varro, your bounty will be clear.

Also, if you aren't too good w/ illusion spells use a divine intervention scoll but have an invis potion ready to take immediatly when you arrive in the fort or those guars will waste you.

Other possibilities would be a Mark/Recall Combination, or simply running. :)

Indeed, the easiest is to Mark a spot right in front of Varro, and then you can teleport to him directly following the deed.
Or, if you have a save just before you actually kill the Tong, you could also pay a visit to Caius and have him train up your speechcraft so that you can taunt them successfully. Given the number of times you need to use persuasion in the game, this is not a bad investment, though you may also prefer to raise your speechcraft naturally ;)

If Illusion is one of your more developed skills, you can also try a charm spell. If you have Restoriation, a fortify Personality spell might also help. If you have trouble finding these spells, take a quick look at http://home.twmi.rr.com/hanu9/mwind/spellsearch.htm , one of the best sites for morrowind which covers all the spell merchants in the original game.

Lol. Don't you mean guards? You're playing the game completely wrong if Guars waste you.
:p :p :p

On a more serious note, all the other ideas were good, I just presumed you had alredy killed them, and saved. If your speed is high enough you can attempt to outrun the guards, draw them out of the fort, then run round them and through the door to Varro's Office. They will not re attack when you venture outside.

You may be able to outrun those fat cat guards in their heavy armor, but can you outrun the majestic Guar? ;)

Actually guyz, you could just jump the wall behind the fort and take the trap door on it down to the interior.

Well... I would use that 80% chameleon amulet.. or constant effect 75% chameleon ring..if you cant make one... then use pluging called Darkshroud keep..

That character wich wears that ring can be found east of Seyda Neen.. He is hostile.. and for lower level characters he IS deadly so it should be chalenge to kill him..

This plugin can also give you your own castle with your own private army of ''evil knights''.. [plugin is morrowind only.. and it should work on every morrowind version]

This plugin can be found on Morrowind Summit.. If you dislike plugins or you have XBOX version.. use that 80% amulet.. you should eba ble to fins some info about this amulet on Morrowind UESP (i am not sure is that UESP right.. but i am sure someone will have right name for it..)

I know this thing what i am going to say has nothing to do with Morrowind.. and i dont mean to offend anyone.. but i cant help my self on this matter..

Change your class in limbo menu to ''Assassin'' and then go and steal guards pants.. so be carefull.. when you ahve quards pant change your weapon to Iron dagger so most players dont know that you are enemy..Use your detect spells to find Hlaalu traps.. try to look as noob as posssible.. so all good players will ignore you.. but remember that some Rambo clerics will kill every thing that they see.. so use haste... and when you have killed your enemy use your escape plan and return to your own spawn.. but bevare if you still have pants.. your team mates are going to kill you..

What I've found is most effective (for those not members of the theives guild) is to go kill Ondres Nerano (put up camp in his house, it's got lots of storage space) then go talk to his patron (the one in extravagant clothes) several times. His disposition will go down by 10 each time, until it reaches 0. When you break conversation with his disposition at 0, he and everyone else in the club except the shopkeep will attack you, offering a perfectly legal solution to the problem (the ironic part is if you talk to the clerk afterward, he says "our doors are always open" or "Tell your friends about this place"). Go talk to Larrius and he'll give you a copy of Biography of the Wolf Queen and the Ring of Surroundings which, ironically, would have been perfect for killing the thugs in the first place.

There are drawbacks to killing Nerano.

Really? Because I haven't found anything wrong with it so far (which is 729 game days later). Is he involved in a quest or something(other than the one "Key to nerano manor" for theives guild)?

So you get an even better reward (the ring and the book) for solving this quest in the roundabout way ? Strange !

yeah, Larrius commends you for "not attracting legal attention" and for that presents you with a "special reward"

I personally think that you guys should use the APOLOGIZE plugin. That way, if you taunt some1 long enuff (without succeeding with the 1st time), you can apologize them and get the rep back to 35 or so. Then keep taunting him until u manage to piss them off. Saves alot of time, money and nerves.

Looks like Harfleur's gotten his question answered, so this thread is closed.
