Oddity W/Bro Poquelin in Cave/Temple

Has any had the following occur to them?
I met brother P in the cave above the idol. I had my mage cast invisibility (doubt this had any effect but...) on my 4 fighter types and put them next to brother P. Had my visible mage speak to him to start the encounter. When he began to cast a spell my four fighters began to whack away at him. My mage cast Chromatic Orb and amazingly it got through his resistence AND he failed his save as he froze in place. My fighters just kept hitting and hitting him and he was quickly at "Almost Dead" but he neither died nor teleported to Easthaven. I looked back through the log and added up the damage done and it was over 500 hit points of damage. He can't have that many hit points especially since he was listed as "almost dead" for about the last 300 hit points of the over 500 I did. I reloaded from the autosave and started again only using Magic Missle vice Chromatic Orb. This time after only a few (by comparison) hits he teleported out.
I am wondering if I threw the program into a loop. If he was held he couldn't cast a spell, and as he is critical to ending the game he can't "die" at this point so the computer just keeps adding damage but won't let him die.
