Where is the Broad Side of That Barn?

I’ve got a bit of an odd "bug" infecting my current game. My PC can’t seem to fire missile weapons at any target unless he’s at point blank range (close enough to hit with a melee weapon). I’ve tried using crossbows, bows, darts, and throwing axes, but all produce the same result. When I shoot from any range, my PC walks up to the target until he’s right next to it and then fires the weapon. None of the NPC’s have this problem; they can all fire normally.

This started happening sometime during Chapter 3. I reloaded a saved game from Chapter 2 and the missile weapons worked fine. I’m in Chapter 4 now and still having the same problem.

Has anyone seen this before? Is there an easy fix to this problem?

My first guess would be that your character is blinded, and for some reason the affect didn't go away after 10 turns, as it should. When you send this character away from the party, can he see normally?
If that's the problem, you could help it by enabling "Debug Mode=1" in the baldur.ini in the BG2 directory, load the game, move your mouse over the character and press Ctrl+R. This should remove all current affects, including blindness.

If this doesn't work, you could try to compare the affect flags with the older save through Shadowkeeper, and find out which one might cause the effect - but that's probably kinda difficult, and someone else may have a better solution.

I tried setting the Debug code and using Ctr+R, but that didn't change anything. However, the problem seems to have fixed itself.

I spoke too soon when I said the problem persisted in Chapter 4. I had just started Chapter 4 and had not had the opportunity to shoot something. I just tried last night, and sure enough, I can shoot normally in Chapter 4. I reloaded the Chapter 3 save and the problem is still there. I guess some flag or another got reset during the chapter change.

Your PC is set with the ranged combat script, correct?

I'm not sure, but I don't think I've set a script for him. If I did, I certainly didn't set it as "ranged combat". I basically have him shoot while the enemy is closing and then switch to melee to finish them off.
