-thats the saying right?
well i have a problem-its not fatal but iritating...
with every turning on,pc when starting win asks for some 'network' password and username!i've seen this a million times but not on my pc!
i really tried everything i could...and failed.what do i have to do to turn this OFF???
btw i have win98se.

Usernames in Win98
Now it's been a while, but I think that Usernames in Win98 were just for convenience... There aren't any permissions to alter... So just make up a username or press escape... You'll bypass the screen...
I'm not sure if that answers your question... But once inside, WIN98's help should tell you more... Post again if that doesn't work, and no one else give a more complete answer, and I'll try to think on how to disable the login screen...
BTW, is it asking for a Domain Name? That might be a network issue...

I hope I'm remembering this right...
If you would like to get rid of the password prompt on startup and you're not connected to a network with a password, do this:
Skip this if it's not asking for a domain name--Right click on Network Neighborhood->Properties and change "Client..." to "Windows logon."
Do this whether or not it's asking for a domain name--Press F3 and search the Windows directory for all *.pwl files and delete them all. It will ask you for password when you reboot, just don't enter anything and click OK.
Upon the next reboot, you should be all better...

You can also find and download a tool for Windows called TweakUI.
(remember to find the right version).
In that tool there is "Automatic Logon", where you activate. Then the tool will log in for you each time you boot Windows.
Normally however - going into the control panel and altering your Username and Password to blanks, should remove the logon box, but it dosen't always work.

Domain Name
A domain name is a login choice (I'm not even sure if they existed in 98, though). The easiest (and somewhat accurate) explanation is that your domain is the server that your login name is based on... This option allows your login name and password to be usable network-wide, if so desired by the network administrator...
Domain names probably wouldn't come up in a home-user situation...
