For a while I played with a ring that raised my destruction skill 5 points. When i took it off, my skill level on the chart was shown in red as though it was reduced. Nothing is wrong with my attribute scores though. I haven't found a way to restore a skill. Only attributes. I tried spells, potions, training, expensive electrolysis treatments... I can raise it through training, but it stays red. Any ideas on what's wrong?

Have you tried the imperial cults alter?If you have not remove your fortify destruction ring before using it.Easiest alter i can think oof right now is the one in Sadrith Mora Wolverine Hall.(It is one floor beneath the mages guild.)

I've sometimes had this occur when I removed an item which fortified my regular attributes. Can't say I ever noticed any drawback, and when I next slept, the red stat coloration went away.

Just a note: is it possible to raise your skills over 100 by damaging them, training up, then using a shrine?

yes it should be...

But using drain 100 skill A for 1-2 seconds should also do the trick..
