Is this a glitch?

I got myself a bunch of gold and proceeded to train Alchemy up 35 levels, and two other magic skills up about 5 levels each, but I have not gained any overall levels. Is my game screwing up, or is this legit? I seem to recall when I trained up a combat skill a few levels, it resulted in the character leveling up.
On a similar note, can a Daedroth just make a scroll disappear or something? I tried to use a scroll on one, and nothing happened. Do they have some sort of resistance to magic, or do I need to do a clean reinstall of Morrowind?

Have you slept? Your character will only gain levels while you sleep.

Daedroth reflect and have a resistance to magicka.
Are the skills major and/or minor skills that you trained?

No, I haven't slept, but it hasn't given me the "You should rest and meditate" message.

Well go to your invetory screen and move your mouse over your level.. if there is something like 35/10 you shoul rest.. you should rest if it is only 10/10.. but are you sure that skill is in minor or major?

Yeah. The skills you increased have to be either one of your major or minor skills to allow you to gain level, but you could try sleeping anyway.Just in case.

It's easy to miss the "rest and meditate" message when you're concentrating on just about anything else. As WOE suggested, check your level indicator, which should show whether you can advance or not. If you can't, find a safe place and sleep.
Note that if you put off sleeping and continue accumulating rises in various skills, these will count towards the attribute multipliers available when you sleep and level up. The most that will count is 10: so if you gain (for example) 10 increases in any combination of skills (not just major or minor) based on Strength between rests, then sleep, you'll be offered a 5x multiplier on Strength. Anything above 10 increases doesn't help, but it doesn't hurt, either.

Got it!
Okay, not having the manual does have its limitations...
I have NO magic in major or minor skills, so that's what it's about. I went and trained in armorer and poof! it was time to "rest and meditate." Thanks, all! The MOST comforting thing is just knowing it's not the program screwing up!
