Yeah, Iguess the only way back to the Monsatery is from the Underdark. Once you leave it you can't re-enter the dungeons...

...depends on what mods (merchants) you have installed - without anything installed - I wouldn't know what to buy for all my gold - so the adventure book would be a good choice from that point of view !

...with the BG2 bonus merchant installed (selling items for an average 100T gold per piece) there are certainly better items available!

What is the best item to buy and how much does it cost please? (normal and HOF). For myself, I bought that adventurers book (+10000xp...nice) just in case I don't get to level 30, so I always can export/import it some times to get the desired level. So it stays in my bag of holding for a long period of time.
But to get to the point of money (which seems to have been your preocupation lately), when I got to the monastery in normal mode, without any mods or cheats!!!, I had if I remember, 350 000 GP. How does it sounds?
As an example, I remember that killing 90 yetis juste before entering the monastery, gave me some pelts to sell and they are worth like 350 each (then 140..).
Hasta la vista

Then you should be able to buy everything from there.. 100 000 for book and 50 000-200 000 for other items.. depends on your party..

best items you can buy (from my point of view) SPOILER (highlight to read):

- every gods ring (Kuldahar)

- averine decanter (wandering village - official bonus merchant)

- arcane scrolls for your wizard(s)

I didn't liek those items, after all (except for the trapped genie, that was interesting). Not that they're worthless or sg, they're powerful indeed, it just feels strange to hold the Equalizer... Makes me remind of Nalia and Haer'Dalis... takes my thoughts to another story, another time...

...you should differ between the official bonus merchant and the inofficial BG2 merchant and mods like weidu adding forgotten items & improved BS

but you're right with the BG2 merchant - it really feels a little strange...

...but IWD2 has from my point of view a problem with the item design:

- quite unbalanced items
- most of the good items are random drops
- Bastard-swords are completly pathetic (should be at least the 2nd best weapon in the game, cause you need an extra feat for them)
- most STR & DEX increasing items are irrelevant due to the spells
- most extra attack items are irrelevant cause the max. amount of attacks is capped at 5
- there aren't any good INT increasing items
- shields are pointless
- heavy armor also
- and so on...

...so I generally don't have problems with mods trying to balance this issue a little bit...

...but it's up to the player what he wants to use - I have most of these mods installed but only use items where *I* have the feeling that it's right to use them...

e.g.

I don't use any of the improved "elemental" BS, but the improved "wrath" and "bastards son" are ok from my point of view...

...and I only use very few BG2 items: the drow armor (similar to the "normal" Drakkas chain) and solaufeins moonblade as off-hand weapon are used by my drow...

...flail of ages & the holy avenger aren't that good...

...the equalizer is completely overpowered - and I think it's just wrong to use all NPC personal items...

...disadvantage of the BG2 items are the missing class restrictions...

...so I'm still a little doubtfull if I will use the harper pin - but will only give it tomy druid if I decide to do so (there should be more then only jaheira's harper pin be available, as there are many other harpers)

...off topic: I tested the druid shapeshifting: white half-dragon (weidu mod) for the 1st time yesterday - cool animation and the druid shapeshifting rocks now !

...maybe it rocks even a little bit to much! ;)

...yeah - really cool animation - looks a little bit like sherincal - and wielding 2(!) greatswords !!!

...kept my bard5/druid3 at low level - and just let her jump to level bard5/druid13 and she gets the white half-dragon as shapeshift!

and now she rocks!!! :D

...so far the hardest enemy she killed was the "sneering keg" in Targos and once shapeshifted she takes out SPOILER: Nathaniel / Rakshasa Maharajah and all his summons at dragons eye level 2 on her own in less then a minute without any buffs !!!

STR boosts to 29 - and dual-wielding icy great(?) or bastardswords

...and the white halfdragon is the weakest of the halfdragon shapeshifts !!!

...I think I will keep her on low level until HOF - these shapeshifts are just to powerfull for "normal" mode!

...but I will do some further testing on these shapshifts !

.

Done some testing on the white halfdragon shapeshift:

quite curious:

you stick to an AC of 14 no matter what feats or buffs you have:

expertise, dodge, barkskin doesn't work...

...but all non-AC buffs work:

so you can use MI, blur, blink and stoneskin !

the white halfdragon is wielding an icy 2-handed sword with a damage range of 29-53 !!!

...but you get the AB+1 from the greatsword feat - not from the 2-handed !!!

and all AB increasing items work !

...she gets 4 attacks per round with ~AB 27

has a cold resistance of 100 - SR 21 (buffed SR 46) - excellent saves and a damage resistance of 8!

and this are only the stats for the white halfdragon - the lowest of the 5 half-dragon shapeshifts - curious about the stats of the elemental halfdragon !!!

...so the halfdragon shapeshifts will be by far your most powerfull melee PCs available besides some very highlevel and sophisticated MC-builds...

...and even the remorhazs and wyverns you get on lower level are awesome !

...only problem with the modded shapeshifts: they are as unbalanced as the old ones - and will ruin the game in normal mode!
