Check the stories on this Christian look at d&d website. Those guys are so stupid and narrow minded.

You got that right..... It would be like if I get my candy stolen in a D&D session and I go about and kill the guy. In real life, i would have gotten the candy back without violence. Not thinking : the guy stole my candy..... KILL!!!!

The people who wrote this have probably never played a single D&D-game themselves. There is some .wav or .mp3 to download on the internet where opinions like this one are made ridiculous. Don't know where to find it though.

You hear some guys playing D&D while eating chips and making stupid jokes. It's really funny

damn right it does, specialy if you are playing a paladin or a cleric

True Story Time:
When I was at university, many years ago, the uni RGP group used to play in one of the college (um, dorms to you Yanks I think) cafes. As such, we had a lot of people wander up and ask us what we were doing. We managed to gather quite a lot of members that way.

One time, one of the curious onlookers asked us what we were doing, and when I answered "roleplaying" (and explained what it was) he literally started screaming and yelling and causing a scene. We had security down upon us in moments - and he was yelling to the security guards that we should be arrested, because we were not only endangering our souls, but if we summoned a demon and it got loose, it could kill a lot of people.

Needless to say, we just sat there completely amazed and slack-jawed. Eventually the guards led the guy away and we got back to roleplaying. Apart from a brief meeting with the Head of College the next Monday, nothing more came of it.

Whilst that is the most extreme example, I've had other run-ins where religious people have denounced roleplaying. Universally not one has actually understood the first thing about gaming - they are ignorant and wished to remain so. However, it is mostly the fringe groups who are against it - I know many moderately religious people who actively game, and who see nothing wrong with it.

Over my many years of gaming I've had to defend my past-time from various groups and individuals, most of whom were just plain unaware of what roleplaying was. A general discussion, and 99.9% of them were fine. It's only the fanatics who are problems!

True, I consider myself to be moderately religious (don't go to church, because I think that crap isn't religion, but a scene, but you could say I am en alternative Christian) and I am a hard-core player!

LOL! That comic goes further than any of the previous ones I have seen. That guy would really hate me. I'm a roleplayer and a Mason.

Seriously though. Most Christians that actually see what is going on have no problem with it. It's lunatics like that chick guy that do it. My father-in-law is a Southern Baptist minister and I have lived in his house. He didn't have a problem with it.

I actually read a comic and it is so over the top that I can't believe anyone can take it seriously.

Conspiracy theorists would say that these sites are done by gamers and the like to discredit groups that oppose them. Perhaps you aren't too far off on your parody comment Rob!

It looks like it's ment seriously, it's a pretty big site with lots of effort put into it.
I can't imagine that it's made by a d&d player. Desides, what's the use of that?

I'm sure it probably is serious, but some think that groups will sponsor groups that seem to oppose them to make the opposition look bad.

Like we could easily say, "We're not doing anything wrong here, look at the idiots that write those comics. They don't have a leg to stand on."

RE : Interesting topic

While I don't agree with their extremist point of view. I do defend their right to have that point of view. We might judge them (this particular group of christians, I am also christian and an avid role player) on their strange behavior but a lot of people would and do consider us to be geeks for roleplaying (not that I care ). Also I have met a lot of strange gamers in my days of role playing that fit their stereotypes quite well, especially in the LARP (Live action role playing ) communities and quite frankly IMHO they definitely need to come back to reality (they creep me out). Role playing can definitely be unhealthy if taken to seriously so while there points may be extreme they do have some merit.

I agree Troy.. They have a right to think it's wrong. I would even go as for as to say that the instances in that comic may have happened. But for them to characterize all roleplayers as such is a little rediculous..

Also, you defend their right to feel that way and expres it and I agree with that.
But we also stand in our right to expres our opinions about what they say. specially if it's about me or a group I belong to.

Hobbies: science fiction, fantasy, role playing, video games and ice hockey

As you can see the only cool thing that my average fellow canuck would find cool about me that I love to play ice hockey. I think my life deserves a 7.5 out of 10 on the geek scale at least.

The reason I play devils advocate (pun intended) on this topic is sadly I have met to many indivduals who take role playing to seriously and they give the rest of us well adjusted role players a bad name.

It is just as easy for us to judge this group of christians as stupid as it is for them to judge us devil worshipers. If you let them take you down to their level they will win with their experience . (half joking)

When a mom is looking for something to blame for her childs suicide role playing makes itself an easy target. It may not be right but it is somewhat understandable considering the bad stigma that role playing has acumulated over the years. I have been playing D&D and other rpg's off and on for 20 years now and eventhough this topic is old hat I still find it very interesting.

Har har! The old "Dark Dungeons" Chick Tract. Man, I remember that back from when I was in primary school in the 1970's. Yes, Rob-hin and jopperm2, I can assure you that Mr Chick is 100% serious and legitimate "Crusader for Christ". Have a read of some of his other tracts, where he denigrates Muslims, Hindus, atheists, scientists, Prodestants, Catholics, evolution, television preachers and so on. The guy is a complete nutbar.

I do agree that some people on "our side" are a little wild. I've met some Vampire LARPers who just are freaky, freaky people.
