Solo monk/druid

Title says all. I'm planning a monk/druid, mainly because both druids and monks benefit from wisdom, and (I'm not sure on this point) in shapeshifted mode druids use their unarmed attack. I think I would first level them evenly until druid gets level 9 spells and shapeshifts, and then pure monk the rest of the way.

I'm not quite sure what race yet, but with my great love for female drow, I think that's what I'll be. Comments? Opinions? Criticism?

.

forget it...

...AFAIK you don't get the monks WIS-bonus to AC when shapeshifted, and most shapeshifts have "weapons" so I would guess you don't get the unarmed attack bonis also!

try a bard 9 / druid 21 and install weimars alternate shapeshifts when you want to solo with that build...

with a bard/sorc you can use MI, blink, blur & stoneskin - but spells / items / feats increasing AC won't work when shapeshifted!

I don't think shapeshift and monk unarmed attacks work together (elementals however use fists, still...). Shapeshifts are also ridiculesly underpowered in the later parts of the game (i tried it, its really bad.)

Also, there is a nice mod that adds a few cool (and not so underpowered) shapeshifts and few extra spells to druids (lighting, web, acid rain, protection from evil bla bla bla). Nothing to unbalance the game though.

I think someone had already posted the links in the useful links sticky topic.

@Silverdragon I hate bards. That is why I will never have one, unless I do a roleplaying party....

But how about a monk/cleric, then? They use wisdom too...

Why do you hate them?

Because I had Hear'Dalis in my party in BGII. Is there a character more irritating?

If you do have a monk, once all their special bonuses are reached, there is not much point advancing it any further. It is better off to become a spell caster once the monk levels are reached.

At least, that's my opinion, others might disagree.

Oh yeah, I've made a trend! :D

@dj_venom

You still get the SR bonuses with every lvl as monk, but as a drow or DG that doesn't matter too much since you get some anyway. But I have thought about multiclassing my monk to a painbearer of Illmater for some buffs, not sure when though...

@Asriel if you refer to your gnomish monk, then I'm sorry but I beat you to it. My first solo monk was the first char I ever made. And I pre-ordered IWD2. He didn't get far though.... I never realized that I should get him a few weapons... I got pwnd somewhere and didn't bother to continue. So... in a way you started the trend, but you weren't first. So there.

Aaaanyways... I decided to just make a party... a 6 char party. I'll get you more details laters.

Ahhh, dammit! oh well, my thread did get 129 replies so at least someone found it interesting ;)

Who knows, someone else might have started a solo pure monk because of me, I'd like to think that :D
I'm trying real hard to be the shepherd
:D :D :D

Damn me for not being able to decide.... I now want to make a solo drow again after having made a monk tiefling accompanied by her girlfriend mage...

Now I am surfing around for a good portrait for my drowess. The portrait always has a huge impact on my style of play btw

I already did. And I found a portrait of an elf that I slightly altered to be drow. Problem is she looks more like a fighter or ranger than a monk... Maybe I'll finally try a fighter/mage....
