Name Stories

I've noticed that many people have chosen their names based of anecdotes or other esoterica. So... anyone wanna talk about where their name came from? Some of them are downright weird.

I was sitting down in front of my computer staring absently at the Game Banshee registration form and "Dragon Wench," was the first thing that came to mind I liked

You must be one happy bunch of fellows then.
When I first came to Banshee, my name was ARcheR_S_, but at a certain point I couldn't access my account anymore. Not that it mattered much to me anyway, because I thought the name was both large (capital letters) as childisch. So I changed my name to Sytze. A name that will be known in a few years to humanity.

I've forgotten the history of my name
I guess that means history will now repeat itself, but I'm not quite sure how that'll work.

by Xandax
I think this thread has been up before, but anyways.....
My name was because I needed a name to use the first time I played Diablo in network with a friend (well - the only time I played Diablo at all).
So I sat messing around with letters and started to use Xerxes as a name because I liked the sound of it (not because of the historical reference). But I didn't want to use a well-known historical name so I messed around some more with the letters and suddenly came up with Xandax which I thought was rather unic.
And since then I've used Xandax for pretty much any RPGish game I've played, andmost all my online handles.
Except for my playing CounterStrike in a periode where I went by the handle CannonFodder where I played, and when I played UT in LANs with some friends where I took the name Slazher (leet right? But I did also kick butt once in UT
)
Only later have I found out that Xandax indeed is also bound in the real world which I didn't know when I thought it up ... or rather took the name.
Howver - I've also found that somebody playing EverQuest use(d) the name Xandax (dang it) But mostly anywhere else (outside EQ) where you encounter the name Xandax in some sort of comunity/forum - it is me.
. (google it and find out
)

by Stilgar
Stilgar comes from the Dune novels.
I'm not very name creative, so i used to use alot of names from books for character names in RPG's.
And i stuck with Stilgar for another forum (my favorite character in the first book), when that forum closed and i went to Gamebanshee i took the name with me.

by garazdawi
garazdawi is actually a combination of two words. Garaz and Dawi, Garaz meaning fearless and Dawi meaning dwarf. That's the name of my first
Warhammer army and because it's so unique I've started to use it whenever I play games or make my oppionion heard online. The language it is written in is Dwarvish in Warhammer. It's really too bad that I cannot use the runes that are used to write it in dwarvish. They look really cool
If you google it than you can follow all the major webpages that I've ever visted, and I'm pretty sure that no one has used that name as well... the first one to copy me would get a smack on his buttom.

by ik911
My name consists of ik, which is I in dutch, and 9-11, an important date in history, never to be forgotten. This combination proved to be very unique.

by Fiberfar
Well, Fiberfar comes from a friend of mine (the same one that painted my avatar). He was making a disturbing family picture which included my avatar and a boy. They were both holding a fiberwire ( the weapon from Hitman)
so they became Fiberfar (far means father) and fiberbror (bror means brother).

by Opalescence
Well anyone who plays Magic: the Gathering knows what Opalescence is: it's a powerful enchantment card that's been so abused in its time it was banned for all eternity. That's right, yours truly was one of the most judicious Opalescence-deck abuser of his time. I was feared! Then my deck got banned
. I still kept the name, however, despite the boos and the rotten (digital) tomatoes thrown at me in MtG forums
. At least here, (most) people don't know what Opalescence is, so I get away with it
. I sometimes go under the name Retaliation, although that's an entirely different story.

by Shai Hulud
I have used shai hulud, from dune, for a long time now both on forums and game handles. It started mainly because I wanted something with meaning and now it works best for fps games because of the 1 sillable begining that is very easy when under fire.
I've enjoyed the name and doubt anything will come up that would have me change it. I used it now...wow close to 10 years.
Actually I think I'm gonna change my Avatar to my sandworm from a previous forum. I miss it.

In the Life sciences we use and kill many different other species, from bacteria to primates. It is not our obvious right to do so, but we think it is worth doing it in order to achive knowledge that will help decrease suffering among our own species.
Caenorhabitis Elegans is a roundworm that is used as a model organism in the Life Sciences. I cannot even start to describe the massive amount of knowledge the studies of this little worm has given mankind. The scientist who first got the idea to start using C Elegans as a model organism, Sydney Brenner, calls it "Nature's gift to science". So, I took my username as a little tribute to this truly wonderful little nematode.
I had also used the same name for my protagonist in BG and BG2, and on Bnet for Diablo II. At Bnet it's a great name, because any other scientist will immediately recognise the name, so I've come in contact with other Life Scientists who play Diablo

My name is an ancient and proud one, passed down as a legend for generations as far back as man can remember...
Ok, not really. It's actually the punishment for my stupidity. Never force your little brother to register you in a forum while you're working (ESPECIALLY if he's a Dragon Lance fan).

Doesn't it have the highest number of braincells to mass ratio of any living organism as well? Or is that some misplaced trivia

by Aegis
I've been using Aegis for sometime now. I think I'm getting onto 6 years. Unless I'm wrong, it is latin for 'shield', which fits perfectly with my nature as being someone who is defensive, and protective of my friends and family.
IT started off as the name of a character in one of my stories, and then I transferred it online, into games and onto forums. Quite often, these days, it exists in the forum of ÆGIS.

It is correct that is has the highest ratio of neurons - neurons are often called brain cells, but in the case of our little worm, "brain" is somewhat exagregated

by werebeargoddess
I got mine when I first joined AIM. I was trying to think of a name, but all of the names that I thought of were already taken. I had just been denied werewolfgoddess, or something along that line, I can't remember what it had been exactly, except that it had goddess in it. But anyway, my dad suggested that I use werebeargoddess, and lo! I was able to use that. I've been using the same name ever since, mostly because I'm too lazy to think of something else.
