THE NEW NPC FOR BG2 !!! IRENICUS !!!!

Ok .. I have done it... :D

Some time ago there was discussion about new NPC in ToB. I liked the idea of Saemon Havarian or Irenicus himself. However ,as we know, Sarevok will be this new NPC.

In the meantime I found all necessary information and utilities to make my own NPCs and this is the first result.

You could download him there : www.polbox.com/m/manveru

You will also need Infinity Add-on Patcher from www.teamBG.com to put Irenicus into game.

There are no problems when real Irenicus meets my fake Irenicus because for game there are two different creatures.

He hasn't many dialogues but it is the first version.

I used only original game dialogues, so the archive is small (in other case I would have to add dialog.tlk as well = 7 MB).

My Irenicus has 17 mage level, several spells of 8th, 7th and lower levels.
Alignment : chaotic evil (original was chaotic good !?)
Race : elf (original was human ?!)

After instalation he will appear in Government District of Athcala (but in new game - it is very important)

If someone wants to test him immediately then type in CLUAConsole :
CLUAConsole:CreateCreature("Irenic")

And my question :
What is your opinion about that ?
I wait for any suggestions about things to improve.

Thanks in advance.

Good Job Manveru, I am glad to see some other people working on enhancements for the game.

You see there is some problem because this NPC could be regarded as overpowered. I plan that eventually he will be accesible in Throne of Bhaal - it means that I will change his dialogues.

The second idea is that my Irenicus will be projection or something like that of better part of original Irenicus and will be going to kill his "evil" real part - maybe his elvish soul materialized in aim to change future ?!

I plan on adding my NPCS only after TOB comes out to avoid much extra work on my part, as I am pretty sure TOB will make any current patches or changes invalid. If your Irenicus NPC is level 17 then even if he has every level 7 and eight spell, he cannot be overpowered IMHO, as he still cannot cast the real unbalancing level 9 spells.

However I guess someone starting a new game would find him a bit overpowering in the beginning of the game. You could overwrite one of the Drow or something in the underdark, make him join there so someone wouldnt have access to his power early on, but I guess anyone who has a problem with using a high powered mage at an early level would simply opt not to use him.

What exactly do you need to create your own NPC? And how difficult is it?

Hehe, it would be kinda wierd if Saemon had been the new NPC seeing as I slaughtered him after the incident with the vorpal blade, and his working with irenicus. (For some reason my party members scripts kicked in on that scene, so during the scripted event they killed 6 ot 7 of the Gikthiki, leaving my protagonist, mage and cleric to slaughter saemon. In the end there were only 1 or 2 of the monsters left when the sharkies came on board.

It seemed damn funny when the game said he'd gotten away thanks to his magics. =)

About 18,000 exp I think. You have to be quick but you can kill him. Unfortunatly it says that he got away "by some magical meens" no matter what you do.

My chars sripts also kicked in on that scene, I was using Paladin melee for my main and Korgan, as they will chase enemies with that one...I thought it was great that they reacted against the gith during that scene...Which brings me 2 another question anyone else see any other things like that in cutscenes? I cant remember anything off the top of my head besides that one.

Grimreaper to create your own NPCs you need several programs easily downloaded. They are 1.Hex editor 2.Cats Dialog Editor 3.Infinity Engine Editor Pro (if you want custom items + spells or innate abilities for your npc)4.ShadowKeeper (not required but helps out) 5. Text editor for .2da files (microsoft word, notepad etc) You can download the IEEP at WWW.TEAMBG.COM . As to a Hex editor I recommend Hexworkshop. You can download a tutorial on creating NPCS Here: http://gustovm.www8.50megs.com/InfinityEngineGames.html as well as Cats Dialog Editor. If you have any questions Email me at AstroBouncer@Aol.com and I will help you out as I can.

Currently I'm working on Saemon Havarian and Xzar NPCs. They will be ready in Thursday or something like that (I have not enough time to finish them earlier, however I will add them to my page in next week as I suppose with modified area scripts, so using Add-on Patcher will not be neccesary)
