i was just wondering if anyone has ever dual-classed yoshimo to a fighter to make him a better tank or if it is better to level him up as a theif

In my current game, I did some editing and made Yoshimo a 7th Level Kensai dualled to a Thief. I kept all of his stats the same and gave him 161,000 experience points (which made him an 8th Level Thief), but I changed his avatar to a monk. His katana isn't useable by a Kensai, so I had to edit that as well (but I acquired a better weapon for him as soon as I could). In my opinion, a 7th Level Kensai dualled to an 11th Thief is better than a 10th Level Bounty Hunter dualled to 9th Level Fighter who doesn't have his thieving abilities back (the experience totals are the same).
I have dualled Yoshimo from a 10th Level Bounty Hunter to a Fighter in at least one of my previous games, but unless I'm playing a Thief or have Jan in my party (Nalia is the only other alternative), I normally prefer to use Yoshimo as a Thief instead of making him a melee warrior. As it turns out, in my current game I wanted Yoshimo and a second melee warrior in my party, but I didn't have room for both, so that's why I made Yoshimo as effective as I could. If I replace him with Imoen, I'll probably make her identical to him just to keep my party consistent. I've always wanted to make her battlecry ("My blade will cut you down to size!" ) mean something, anyway.

The SwashImoen component of the Refinements mod makes Imoen a 10th level swashbuckler instead of a 7th level thief. The downside is that she's totally useless in the first dungeon (because she's only a 1st level mage, she won't have any thief skills, but just avoid the traps and chests till you get Yoshimo and you should be fine). And she won't be quite as high mage level when you pick her up later (I got her just shy of reactivating her thief skills, easy to do while still within the Spellhold dungeon). But, she's got significantly better skills as a fighter once that's all done with, and it's actually not totally useless to give her a couple of weapons and let her dual wield - makes her a little more versatile than the standard Staff of Magi/Gesen Bow combo.
That's the usability aspect of that component, but I actually think it's also much better roleplay-wise. It makes complete sense that she has no backstab multiplier and that she's totally useless in the first dungeon (after saving everyone, of course). Note her continuous complaining about intense headaches and "I don't think I could [get us out of here] again" - what's that mean if it doesn't mean she's too messed up to pick locks? With it, I also like to think that she didn't dual to mage deliberately - it was an effect of Irenicus's experiments to "draw out her power". Adding some dialogue along those lines, and maybe even some conflict on her part over the new role Irenicus forced her to take (though eventually coming to find that she prefers magery, of course), could make for an awesome add-on to that mod. Heck, I'd do it if I knew how to mod :/

how many of you have kept Yoshimo for the whole game? Suposedly:
You just don't take him to get Imoen....and then go to the tavern to get him....have him join lightning quick before he dies.....and then ressurect him.

I prefer the 200 000 EXP you get for taking his heart to a temple of Ilmater to actually having him in my party.
Actually, I have to admit that his soundset was pretty good, especially the critical hit sound. I like critical hit sounds that make it sound like the character is actually fighting, and not just watching the fight ("A good hit" - Valygar). It was also VERY rewarding when I first figured out how to backstab. Some muggers attacked my party, Yoshimo hid in the shadows, and snuck up behind them and got a critical hit. "DIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIEEE!" Beat them at their own game. MUAHAHAHA! I actually was disappointed the first time I had to part with him, but there just isn't any place for him in my stategies anymore.
