First of all, i want to mention that english isn't my native language so it's pretty bad. Don't be scared. ; )

Such situation: i'm playing BG2 and my computer suddenly reboots!
It's not some kind of virus, i'm completly sure. I've tried to reinstall BG2 - no result.

It's not the latest version (patch, i mean) but i played it many times before this! There were no such problems.

Bg2 is my favourite game, so i'll be really happy if you can help me. - )

Get the latest patch: that's my best advice. The unpatched game occasionally experienced memory problems.

Be careful about the use of what we call acronyms, in English: abbreviations drawn from a series of words. You used one that's a common vulgarity. (I removed it.) The site owner doesn't allow this. You can find his rules here.

It may also be some hardware problem, depending on your machine configuration. I the game overwhelm the Motherboard and cpu the sistem may reboot to avoid bigger damages.

English is not my native language as well, but here you'll learn a bit more, be sure, aye? ;)

No, it's not hardware problem. I walked through the game two or three times and met no such problems (it was this computer). I think this problem is connected with quicksave - Dan Simmons wrote about it in his walkthrough (it's AWESOME!). But as I said there were no such troubles in previous walkthroughs. (

I reinstalled windows today (not only for BG2 - ) ) and game was fine until I presse "q". Arghhh. ( A pity, yes.

I hope i will. ; )

I had exactly the same problem myself and was really pulling my hair out at one stage :) However I managed to fix it. Are you by any chance using a motherboard with onboard sound? Upgrade the drivers for your sound chipset to the latest and that usually fixes the problem (did for me). It was a problem for a lot of people out there at one stage until finally someone stumbled across it on the official bg2 forums.

Hope this helps :)

oh, thank you!
the sound card was the problem!
I have the motherboard with onboard sound as you said. But my drivers are the latest - "what's the problem" i thought?

Because i chose the best quality of sound, i suppose! Now it's "average pc", so there is no a lot of sounds but i've played BG2 for an hour and met no problems (reboots, i mean).

Great, thanks.

Glad I was able to help :) I'm not sure what drivers I was using, but I didn't have to turn down any of the effects.......... Mind you, the drivers I did download at the time are probable "old" now. I have them saved on cd so I just install them each time I reformat my computer. So perhaps (if you can be bothered) download some of the slightly older releases until you find what works 100%. Up to you I suppose ;)
