help!!! serious graphic problem

This thing is really making me crazy!

My hardware: 2.8 GHz Pentium4, 512mb ram, NVidia GForce6 5200.

I'm not sure if this hasn't been discussed before but I couldn't find a threat about it. Heres my problem: In every area where there is any kind of water the graphics are going insane. There are colored "strings" coming out of the modles faces and some other items in those areas. This is a serious issue because you nearly can't see anything!
First time this happened was on SantaMonica beach (coz it's the first time you encounter water) but its really happening everywhere, where there is water (even if its only a pool or sth).
I tried all graphis settings, got the latest drivers for my graphic card, patched the game on 1.2 but its still there.
Can anybody pls help me?! :(

i don’t know if its going to help you ... but your graphic card has active or passive cooling system ? i ask u because i had an FX 5200 Asus that dose this when overheat ... and not only at water ... after i opened the case of comp and put some air flow in the case the problem was gone ... so check if your card is not actually have some problems with overheat ... hope that helps !

sorry about my english hope u understand what i am trying to say :)

Hm, thx for the hint, but I don't think this will help me, Coz this also happens when I just started my PC so it can't be very much hot in there ..

There's nothing wrong with the water by the way...
Those strings come out of peoples heads (main character one's as well)! And out of weapons you may carry.Only happens in areas where there is water, but the water itself looks fine.
Hope this makes any sense..

Well, this is the first game I've experienced this and I do have the latest original drivers for my graphiccard...

Okay, I'm also experiencing gfx problems. These are a bit different thought. When I get past Santa Mocina and enter Downtown, the gfx goes nuts. Like walls and doors, they become transparent/black. This makes it impossible to get any further in the game.

Here's an example: http://www.netikka.net/risto.lauri/penthouse.jpg (@ Ventrue Tower in Downtown)

AMD 3000+ Barton
Hercules Radeon 9500 Pro
512Mt DDR

Weird, for both you guys... Marmis, I have no idea, but Harlequin, try going to the shortcut you launch Vampire from (usually at your start menu), right click on that, and where it says Target:, leave everything there (it should be "C:\Program Files\Activision\Vampire-Bloodlines\vampire.exe"), and add " -directx7". That's space, -direcxt7, with no quotes. That might introduce some other graphics problems, but its all I can think of that *might* fix your problem, if it is indeed from the water. Sorry I don't have anything else.

i had that same problem too...i have a GeForce FX5700, and i first noticed it at the Santa Monica beach, but it was worse then yours, the crazy colors would spread to the table with the radio, and then the people.
however for me getting the newest 66.93 forceware NVIDIA patch fixed it for me. be completely sure you have this one, it just came out about a month ago.

thats probably no help at all, but good luck anyway.

Make sure to update to Directx 9.0c, and the newest ATI or Nvidia drivers. That would be the easiest solution to your probs. I think the weird strans come off the water for you because it's trying to render it, but something's missing so it's causing problems.

use newest drivers from http://www.nvidia.com or http://www.ati.com

Well, I´m Experiencing the same problem as those two, can´t even get bout Santa Monica beach because of this... i´m using an Nvidia GeForce FX Go5700 and I´m quite angry for as it seems, it´s one of Nvidias "the way it´s meant to play" things and *shold* run on their cards, shouldn´t it?

and if one could tell me where there are the newest driver for LAptop Graphics? For Nvidia Wwrites that their Detonator does not function with go cards?

Yes, according to the text files it should run on both ATI's and NVIDIA's cards. Clearly it doesn't though. I'm still stuck in Downtown because of the graphics, also took a few shots more of the action:

Black doors and walls, here I come :C

I know this has been said but you're right. NVidia won't run the game right. Period...even though it claims it supports it. I got a new type of video card and it ran fine.

Problems running on NV hardware

Any NV3x based chips (geforce FX 5xxx series) will have problems rendering any heavy shader 2.0 spots, such as water. The NV4x chips (geforce 6xxx series) render with visual quality equal to ATI hardware, and slightly better performance per dollar. Right now there is no console string to change the render path to DX 8.1 or 8.0, so the geforce FXs will have problems. Just by a 9600, 9800, or 6600 and your pixel shader 2.0 problems will be solved.

The newest ATI Catalyst drivers were released, I just downloaded them and gave it a try. But no, no help from there. I'm pretty positive that the problem is in the code itself. Any help/tips would be highly appreciated.

Glad to see people are getting help for what ails them.
If you're not having success here, there is always the technical support forum, looked over by some very technically sophisticated people.
