The Arcanist's Tower ***SPOILER***

*****SPOILER*****I need some help please. I am in the The Arcanist's Tower and I have cleared out the mages, etc. and I have gone to the arcanist's bedroom and I now have the mirror in my pack. However, I can't get it to teleport me anywhere nor can I use the "gate" outside the room to leave this level. Do I have to go back the way I came through the shadow portals?? That would suck. Am I missing something??
