Effects of Stealing

I have read that you should attempt to steal as often as possible. Is there any negative effect from stealing from "innocent" people (whether you get caught or not)?

Also, I collected all these scorpion tales in the temple...what are they good for?

As far as I know the only negative effect of stealing is getting caught.

Scorpion tails can be bartered.

Depends who catches you stealing. The best time/place to steal is when you get to The Den and those kids stationed at each door attempt to pick your pocket. If you immediately try to steal from them, you can get your items back (if they were successful). Stealing from other NPCs can make them more hostile to you (the manual says) but I've never seen it happen.

Cheers,

I have noticed that in the description of the Stealing skill it says you can "steal from people or places"...what do they mean by "places"?

I've never seen ill-effects from stealing *if* you didn't get caught.
If you get caught you can count on the area going hostile if unlucky - if lucky only the NCP will get hostile - if more lucky he will run away in combat mode :D

There are certain places where you can steal stock right off the shelves, but those are limmited if you have the patch.

Also as a side note make sure you're standing behind someone before you start using your steal skill so you have a higher chance of sucess.

if you steal from people in your home town
it doesn't matter if u get caught or not your reputation will drop
after 4-5 steal attemps

maybe this counts for other cities as well not sure about that
