I wonderd what other people think about the 8th level Wizard Spell Flame Cloud (sorry, I got the german version dunno it's name exactly in english)
In my example I have a level 17 mage.
Damage: 1-4 per level, 17-68, average 43 pts.
Duration: 1 round per level, 17 rounds, 731 pts.
Enemy can save for half (!) damage, this result completely baffled me, it will do at minimum 365 damage from fire.
Is there any enemy who can survive this ?
I really wonder about your opinion about this.

its english name is incendiary cloud..it will do average 43dam per turn with a lvl 17 mage...but the area of effect is very small..so a char can easilly run out of it

I never used that spell, but I am thinking about it now.
My ususal way to deal with a (relative) difficult situation is to advance with my ranger and when he is surrounded with baddy's, I fire two spell triggers (ie. 6 fireballs). That usualy fries everybody exept my ranger (110% fire resistant).
Incendiary cloud sound like it will work great too!

The problem I see with that spell is the duration. It takes 17
rounds for the total effect of the spell. Anyone stupid enough to stick around in the cloud that long deserves the damage he gets.
As far as I know, 1 round equals 6 seconds, meaning the spell will last for 102 second, or better said, 1m42s. That's VERY long.

Oh, forgot to add: the enemy gets a chance every round to save for half damage, but only for the damage he receives in that round.
Since he doesn't always make his save (unless he's some god-like character) during those 17 rounds, he'll most probably take more damage than the mentioned minimum of 365. It all depends on the height of his save of course.

Well, it will work with my strategie.
As the baddy's are all busy attacking my Ranger they will not move out of the cloud.
(My Ranger will probably have killed them befor they suffer much fire-damage anyway)

Oh, yeah, I forgot ... Aragorn-with-the-100%-fire-resistance, right?

Eat your heart out Daemion (which BTW means something like "Born of flames").
I wonder if all those irritating fortify-the-wizard spells work agains this spell.

We could test it ... if it would only work to create a network game over the cable. Figured out some more regarding this? Any new ideas?
And what about PnP RPG-ing next sunday? Any chance?

I used Incendiary Cloud alongh with fire elementals and a character protected by a Protection from Magic scroll on Irenicus in the final battle.
Other than Firkragg, fire elementals, and other creatures with 100% fire resistance I think it will kill anything that sits in it long enough. I used a double one to kill the Black Dragon.
Protection from Magic scrolls also enable your characters to operate in the cloud without taking damage.
