Can't Trigger NPC Quests (Spoilers?)

Post by The Z »

Ok, here's the deal. I'm going through the game a second time to do stuff I didn't do the first time around and have already gotten to the point where Bastila's been captured by Malak. I've avoided Korriban because for some reason (even though the journal says that I've finished every dialogue with Carth) I can't trigger the "Finding Dustil" quest. And since Dantooine is gone, I'm stuck travelling from Manaan to Tantooine and back again trying to trigger his quest because if I go to Korriban without the quest, he won't be there. What am I doing wrong?

Second up: On my first run through the game I was never able to trigger Canderous's quest despite him having told me about his exploits in the Mandalorian war against the Republic and Revan. Again, I got to the same point in dialogue and still can't trigger the quest despite running back in forth between planets in a vain attempt to triger it. What am I doing wrong?

Have you been using Canderous repeatedly in your mission parties? Have you spoken to him periodically, until he nothing more to say? And have you stood around in cities, doing nothing, waiting for possible NPC dialogs to occur?
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.

Well....Canderous kind of doesn't have anything to say unless I ask him if he knows anything about whatever planet we're on. The thing is, I've finished Carth's dialogue. It's under my journal in "Completed Quests", so I assumed that there's nothing left to talk to him about until I can trigger his quest. The funny thing is that in my first run, I got the quest right after finishing his dialogs, while this time it just hasn't happened.

I've never gotten Canderous's quest. Everywhere I look it says that I have to get to the point where Canderous talks about the republic and Revan, which I've done. The quests just don't seem to pop up :( :( :(

I guess the only thing I can do is stand around in the Dune Sea with Canderous and Carth in my party and go back to my computer tomorrow morning :D

I've never had too much of a problem getting the triggers for the NPC's although sometimes it is a fart on trying out each area. You need to be in or around the docking area of the hawk to trigger the quests although I've always gotten Carth's before I even go to my 3rd planet so you may have hit a cut off point for triggering that quest. For Canderous I've always had the most success triggering his quest either on Dantooine, (which wont help you though) or at the docking ports on Mannan just after the first Merchant fishy guy. You have to have mention of REVAN in Canderous' quest log to trigger the quest.
Oh and if you've already done Cat womans quest without getting the special invite to the premium shop on Korriban then you've missed a treat!

Carth's quest:
I usually get this quest in Manaan after Carth tells you about his wife and his missing son.

Canderous' quest:
I only got this quest once. I ran into Jagi on Korriban. I think this happens after Canderous tells you about sacrificing some troops so that he could exploit an enemies weakness to win the battle.

I didn't know there was a cut off point for his quest. Oh well, I've done it before so I'm not missing anything new. As for Canderous, I do have mention of Revan and I've been going from the docking bay in Manaan and back to Tantooine just running around areas where NPC quests should be triggered.

Well, I've never gotten that dialogue in either game I've played so that could be it...

I believe the Canderous dialog I was refering to was before he starts talking about his fights with Revan. (I'm trying to be a little vague on purpose, so I don't give any of the story away.) So if he has mentioned his Revan-battle then I believe you sould have triggered it.

Actually, now I remember which dialogue you're talking about...the part where the enemy exposes their commanding ships right down the middle (or something like that) to combat his feint. Maybe I'm past the cut off point for that quest too. Thanks for the help.

No it's after that conversation, Revan must be mentioned in the quest dialogue screen. And don't quote me on the cut off point for Carth it was just a theory, I'm not sure if there are cut off points for any of the NPC quests but some are best left untriggered untill after certain points as they would stop things from happening.

Revan is in the quest dialogue. I always get up to that point and then I never get further. That's why I'm confused, because on every website I've been on that should be the point where I'm able to get the quest. Unfortunately it's not. I mean, it's not a big deal from an XP and equipment standpoint (been through the game once and already know where the good stuff is), but that's one area of the story I've never been able to flesh out...

I can only suggest you keep on trying to talk to him and wander around trigger areas with him, failing that just start a new game

I wonder if it is possible to get every NPC's quest in one game. I have played games that I could activate most quests, but despite all my efforts was unable to start 1 or 2 in that game. Maybe it is in the code that you can only activate a certain number of quests in one game. Could have been implemented to help out with replayablity.

Just a thought, not sure. I personally have never completed all the quests in one game, maybe someone else has.

What level are you currently? Sometimes new dialog options do not show up until you level up.

No there is no such thing, once I knew how and when to activate them I can get and complete all of the NPC quests, my current game I have done, Mission, Jolee, Bastilla, HK (the full upgrade bit anyway not going to spoil the completion of his quest), Canderous and have triggered Carth but haven't gone to Korriban yet, Juhani I am waiting to trigger till I get to a specific point.

So it is possible in one game to get all of the NPC quests. If your stuck try the GB walkthrough, it's quite possible the best one out there and will helpfully explain everything.

yup, I agree with Macleod1701. I also have been consistently able to complete all of the NPC quests. I then to do them in this order - Mission, Bastila, Canderous, Jolee, Carth, Juhani.

The one with Bastila is a little tricky in the beginning.. she is kinda moody.. Juhani's quest I am hesitant to do.. but still I did em.

Why, I am even able to talk to Jolee all the way.. till the game doesn't give me anymore options.

But I have to say that it takes a conscious effort to activate all the NPC side quests. The first few times I played, I did not manage to complete Canderous, Carth and Juhani.
In the end, everything will be alright. If it is not alright, it is not the end.

Yeah it does take an effort having to speak to them..... a lot! But some of the quests allow you to gain some experience and is a pleasant diversion form the main storyline, giving a little more depth to the characters. Fun time all round!

I personally have never been able to trigger either Canderous' quest or Juhani's. And they're the one's I like to keep with me the most. I was hoping I'd see some sure fire ways to trigger these, but it sounds like no one else is EXACTLY sure how they get triggered either.....bummer.

Not that surprising, though. I've always managed to get invited to the special vendor on Koriban, but it alway seems to happen in a random place. Obviously I'm triggering it, but it's a complete mystery as to what the actual criteria are.
Open here I flung the shutter, when, with many a flirt and
flutter,
In there stepped a stately raven of the saintly days of yore;
Not the least obeisance made he; not a minute stopped or stayed
he;................................
Perched, and sat, and nothing more.

I'll tell you how exactly to trigger them.

Canderous - Talk to him untill he has spoken about how revan defeated the Mandalorians and go to a trigger point with him in your party, (you may have to try a few different planets). Jagi will walk up to you and challenge you, then just go to tatooine and from there it's up to you.

Juhani - Basically just talk to her untill she mentions how she was enslaved then rescued by the Jedi, go to a triggere point and some weird speaking bloke should come up and start being rude, up to you how you deal with him, he'll leave and reappear later at another trigger point with two goons and try to start a fight. Yet again from here you're on your own as to how you want to resolve the issue.

There you go, if that doesn't help than try the GB walkthrough which will say exactly the same thing as I've said but in more detail.

Oh and the criteria for being invited to the premium shop is that you've (SPOILER) done the Leviathan and have found out that you're Revan, then you get invited at any trigger point you next visit after you escape
