Is there a list of how much you have to donate to get rep points? What are the points good for again?

Really not worth it to donate since you should have no trouble building a rep up to 20 if you do the quests.

Yes and no depends on your style of play, some times you get attacked in a public place and there is collateral damage. this can cause your rep to drop like a rock.

I personally don't like to reload and re fight to avoid the collateral damage.

Having said that the advantage of a super high rep is minimal IMO

A higher reputation offsets costs quite well, the belt of frost giant strength for example will cost 5000 gold less compared to average reputation.

Also buying all those expensive scrolls costs a many a fair copper.

Unless you're blasting away using cloud kill and fireball I don't see how you would cause too much collateral damage O_o

Then again I imagine you're using lightning bolt...

Guys, please don't quote a very long post in its entirety just to post a single line. Thanks. :)

Two things. First of all, Reputation can affect NPC reactions. For example, if your Reputation gets too low, party members of Good alignment will complain, and they will leave the group if they reach the breaking point. The same also applies to Evil party members if your Reputation gets too high. NPCs who aren't in your party are also aware of your Reputation, and it might have an effect on your dialogue choices. In special cases, Reputation will also have an effect on the decisions made by certain party members (Jaheira comes to mind).

Reputation also affects store prices. The higher your Reputation, the better the price. Personally, I don't think store prices matter at all if you have a Thief or a Bard in your party and a few Potions of Master Thievery. You can steal the items you need from most merchants (although some merchants do not give you the option, such as Ribald at the Adventurer's Mart). If you want to buy an item from a merchant you can't steal from, you can always raise a lot of gold by stealing merchandise from other merchants and fencing it. You can also sell lawfully gained treasure to reputable merchants, then steal it back from them and sell it to disreputable merchants. These are perfect activities for a party that has a low Reputation. :)

Well last time it happened I thought that my spell trigger was loaded with
defensive spells, really it was a tripple sunfire, man that hurt :D

lightning bolt sucks, but at lower levels, and if ambushed, you have to use what you got on hand. :(

what I hate is when you use an area effect and some stupid pesant walks into it.
