Opinions on Perks?

I just reached level three and get to choose a perk. There are a few that sound interesting to me but I would like to know everyone's opinion on them, or any others:

FASTER HEALING - is 2 extra points worth it?
HERE AND NOW
SWIFT LEARNER
STRONG BACK - my carrying weight is already 200 and right now I could use the extra space, but I've heard that once you get NPCs in your party and a car, extra space is not much of an issue...is this true?

I've never taken any of them in my game, and don't find them particular usefull for the characters I've played.
If you like them - then pick them though - it is your game afterall.

However - I would advice against the Swift Learner, simply because it is not worth spending a perk on that one in my view.

As for strong back - then yes you (can) get a car, which means that you can dumb stuff in the trunk, and then you needs not beable to carry as much.
Later in the game you also get the oppertunity to increase your strenght statistic by various methods, which thus increases carrying capacity there.

well to my opinion all perks are good, it just depends what u like..
and also on the chracter u pick.

as for your perks
faster healing ain't very usefull if your a ranged character but for melee it could be usefull. Not saying it's handy to spend that on your third lvl but it could be usefull

swift learner is always handy if you play for experience (i always take swift learner, also because i like to get much xp early in game)

and as for strong back well....if you fancy carrying a lot of usefull junk GET it!
also could be usefull if u play pure solo it's all up to you..

here and now is kinda weak why would u use a perk to boost ability points? while there are alot of way's to increase ability points..

but like i said before it's just the way u like it..

besides u can't have comment without not having ever used the perk can you now?

so i hope this gives you more information than xan did :)

I'd never advice anybody to take Swift Learner, especially on the first couple of runs through the game. Infact - I can never think of a situation when taking it would be good.
Well - in my view spending a perk on getting 105 XP instead of 100XP is not that productive, or 1050 instead of 1000.
The total gain (again - in my view) is minimal when compared to the fact that you "loose" perks on it. I use the word loose, because you only gain XP for it, and not extra abilities. And you need many XP for the perks to be worth it and make up for the (up to) 9 character levels worth of perks used on getting up to 15% XP bonus.
9 levels just to gain 15% XP after that, is not something I'll advice.

Personally, from that list, I'd take Strong Back. I agree 100% with what Xandax is saying about Swift Learner - it is not worth it. A random encounter with two groups of baddies will give you more XP than what Swift Learner gives you for the whole game.

Hear & Now is a waste of a perk, as is Faster Healing. You're better off looking for perks which improve the specific type of combat you favour (i.e./ melee or missile) or going for improving Criticals, Action Boy and so on.

I'd take Strong Back simply as a time saver - instead of running back and forth between the car and the shop, you can carry more stuff. It's a minor thing, but I'm a pack rat. :)

Cheers,
TGHO

Personally, I'd take Comprehension, Awareness or Quick Pockets before I'd take any of the ones you listed. Probably Awareness, especially on my first play through.

swift learner is a nice thing to have. esp when youre a massive xp seeker like me. theft and that sorta things heal whatever gains xp i get it :P

awareness is a nice perk if your a starter. if u played one or two games with the perk u know almost all hp of monster so awareness is kinda ineffective that way

i've almost tried all things in fallout2 hehe
and swift learner is indeed handy 16xp from theft and get 17 intead with the perk or higher doesn't seem much
but if u do some random ecnounters where u get like 5.000 or more
u get a nice bonus from the swift learner

but what the heck everybody got his own way of play.

Awerness is one of the mainstay perks whenever I played.
It is extreemly good, because you get the chacne to see which one of your enemies is the most dangerous.
Comprehension I've never taken, because I find plenty of books throughout the game to reach the cap of skills point I can learn from books anyway.

Quick Pockets is also a very nice perk.

I believe that you can get thief as well as one of your early perks. It seems somewhat useful for a little boost in skill points early on but easily negated once you're higher level. I might add that 10 extra points in steal and lock pick serves you much better in Klamath at level 3 than 100 points in steal at level 25.

~

FASTER HEALING - I've never tried this one since it never seemed that great, generally I don't rest unless it's required for a time triggered quest so something like this is useless to me. Probably rest maximum of three times in any of my games.

HERE AND NOW - The wonderful thing about leveling up is gettings perks, why waste a perk on leveling up? It is easy to level up, it is not easy to get more perks.

SWIFT LEARNER - Killing a rat gives more experience than this perk, I think that says a whole lot. Additionally if you never read any of those scouting manuals and never increase your outdoorsman skill you can easily rack up experience fast near San Franciso.

STRONG BACK - Fun thing to do, carry only a rocket launcher as a weapon for the end half of the game. Mantis? Explosive Rocket. Rats? Explosive Rocket. Child holding flower? Armour Piercing. Strong back isn't bad very nice if you're playing Fallout Tactics but there's quite a few better options.

Save Here and now untill you are like lvl 27 when it's really hard to lvl up.
As my first two perks, I've found that Awareness and Quick pockets are really nice to have. Quick pockets especially if you play like me, with the fast shooter (?) trait, where you constantly need to reload your gun.

Fast Shooter it is. Combinated with Sniper it gives 5 critical hits per round :D

then u will need a high luck luck too to get good rolls

but all criticals are taken on body wich aren't very high

an aimed shot in the eye or head does most damage
depending on the weapons i think 2-3 aimed shots in the eye, head do more damage then 5 critcials on torso

but then again weapon depended and armor of unit

i can be wrong though

I started with luck 6, upgraded it by 2 through dialogue and added a point with a perk to a total of 9.

Sniper perk + 9 luck + 240 in small guns + gauss rifle = instant kill (at least no more that two shots, maybe more on robots)

He can also lower your luck by 1 if you make a bad roll. And remember, you won't be able to initiate dialogue with him after he performs his "cleansing"

Early on in the game i find awareness is always usfull becuase you can see what NPC's have before you fight them and you can also tell how hurt they are in battle which means you can run away if need be.

ye if your a starter awareness can be handy

but if u have played the game lots of time u know the exact hp already or at least give it a gamble
