Lockpicking is good for opening locked locks (naturally), and you can/will find some of them in the game.
So haveing at least one on your team that can do that is recommended.

Science should give you bonus to fighting high-tech enemies, although I'm not that sure it is not an "urban legend", so I would not recommend giving much focus to that skill.

Tactics aren't only about shooting everything that moves.
Lockpicking, at least, have uses in this game. And I can't recall how much science has (I recall it should have a larger impact near the end game - but can't remember if it was implementated. I wont spoil unless asked to)
But you should be able to find enough books to get at least one character semi-high in science.

Also - carefull with the abbreviations - they are also under the forum rules regarding profanity :)

I seem to remember it being a total pain in the backside not having a high lockpicking skill. There are numerous doors, safes and lockers that require very high lockpicking skills to open.

As a side note I recommend using all books on your (main) character simply because that is the only one that you won't replace and he'll always be there to repair your car or disarm your traps.
