I am quite sure I have encountered some kind of bug. I went to Lothar's and retrieved Morty, then went back to Pharod's and found him dead. Now when I return to the Lower Ward and try to exit east or west (clerk's ward or way i came in) the world map pops up when I walk to the edge of the screen. I tried going back through Lothar's, to the buried village, up through the Trash Warrens, to Ragpicker's Square, then back to The Hive but the same thing happens once I reach the Eastern edge of Ragpicker's Square. Portals aren't affected, only breaks between screens on the world map. Prior to this problem I didn't know there were patches, so I just recently downloaded and installed them but the problem is still there. I read through the problems that the patches are suppose to fix and I don't see any problems that seem similar to this one listed. Let me know if you have any suggestions at all.

edit: now that I've had some sleep and can make more sense of your post I'll attempt to address your question:
The world map popping when you walk to the edge is a feature, not a bug. Once it has popped you can simply point to the location you want to go to and click. This way you can avoid a lot of unnecessary walking - for example, if you want to go the Cleric's Ward from the Ragpacker's Square all you need to do once you go to the edge of Ragpacker's Square is click on Cleric's Ward on the map. You don't need to go through the Trash Warrens and the Hive like you did previously.
