I am in Tarant (sp?) and I am speaking with the dwarf outside schuyler's place and he'd like to join my party but I am only allowed TWO (2) party members? Is that right? Anything increase the number of party members you can have? If not should I drop the ork I picked up in the first town (Smog?) or what?
Thanks . . .

Your party limit is determined by your main stat: Charisma
With 20 charisma I believe that you will be allowed something like 5 party members, but if you manage to do the right things you can get even more party members.
If you get more than 6 then there will be a little button that will allow you to scroll up and down your party portraits.

Magnus is a fair and alright follower, he makes the balanced axe and sword, which is a nice reason to have him. Getting him to join you is a matter of personal preferance depending on playing style.

Thanks . . . that's encouraging . . . at the moment I might stick with Smaug (sp?) because of his carrying capacity . . . he's pretty strong and seems to help out in combat. Magnus otoh has more skills, and even a couple of schematics.
Any opinion on which might be the better party meber at this early stage? (As you say, I guess later on I can add either as I increase in CH).
Are there any MUST HAVE party mebers in terms of their value in skills and stats?
Thanks

(minor spoiler)
If i remember correctly, even if ur charisma will only let u have one follower, theres a place u'll go to soon enough where a dog is being treated badly, help him and he joins ur party anyway, and he aint too shabby either

Personally I think Sogg Maud Mead and Dog are must haves. Being more often than not a pack rat the carry weight of the big ogre is extremely nice coupled with his battle skills, also I like to use dog for dealing with certain monsters that damage your weapons when you attack them.
Finally if you do something good or bad these two guys don't give a blooming hoot, which is a +++ in my books.

Side note about charisma, for every 4 points of charisma you have you get one more follower. Some traits that you pick at the start of the game will let you start off at higher charisma than others (eg Charlatan's Protege)

As an experiment I dropped Smaug and added Magnus (after saving first so I can revert) and it looks like Smaug will just wait where I left him forever?!?!? Is that so?
If that's true then that's interesting . . . If I leave Smaug and pick up Magnus for a while to exploit some of Magnus' strengths, and then go back to get Smaug before moving along, that may not be so bad.
Is that how it works?
And thanks for the good info . . .

It is simple
4 Charisma per one follower
I use Virgil, Dog, which is perfect melee fighter with high speed (only problem is that I can not travel by train with him).

Actualy you can get pretty many followers, without the charisma. Some of them don`t take a Party Place when you take them.I don`t remember who anymore but i am sure about Dog and Virgil...So you can have them and + the ones you can have with the charisma.I rarely party with more than 2 though.
Well,if you want some must-have-characters then you should take Virgil even if you are a techno. Then i like to take Raven but you should keep her apart from that bow. Also a good thought would be taking Magnus.Heard that he is very fun to play with.
