Bag of Holding!
Granted it doesn't kick arse in battle, but it sure made organizing your backpack a lot less frustrating.

im thinking its either the ring of gaxx or the carsomyr blade..the 2 most powerfull items in the game
the robe of vecna is a close runner up, with the amulet of power and staff of the magi as the absolutely quintesal items for a wizard

Yes,cloak of mirroring is an extremely powerful item but i found out that it makes gameplay a bit unbalanced. This applies especially to beholders:if you don't have the cloak, beholders are very difficult to beat (and gathered in great numbers,a direct assault is very very difficult) but if you are equipped with it you just stand in front of them and you just look them killing themselves by their own spells.
I believe that the designers create this item in order to balance the extremely high casting ability of beholders. The way they are implemented in this game isn't so good:they are not casting spells, they are firing them like a "magic machine-gun".I don't know their casting speed, but it seems to me that every eye can cast at least one spell per round.
They saw that beholders are very difficult in combat,so they put this item to make things easier-but they made things too easy.
Perhaps they should have reduced their overall casting speed to one spell per round.
And i agree with Equis, bag of holding is the most useful item in the game.

Either one of these 3, cloak of mirroring, celestial fury or ring of kiagnaxx. Think that's how you spell it. ta.

no..the cloak of mirroring is NOT a sure win against beholders..if they cast flesh to stone, youve screwed..elder orbs can cast it..i dont know about regular beholders

I don't know about your cloak of mirroring but mine reflected flesh to stone spells. In that way some beholders petrified themselves.

you must have had a spellturning spell up..because the cloak will only reflect damage..not doing anything against immoblizing spells..hold..domination..maze and imprisonement being prime examples..the elder orbs in hell can cast imprison too

No,i am not using any spell turning spells or equipment. My character is a kavalier who went into battle alone with no other spell protection than the cloak.

Beholders have an petrification gaze that's fired like a projectile. The cloack of mirroring will reflect this. The elder orbs on the other hand can CAST petrifecation without the projectile!

the cloak ONLY reflects damage!

I have seen Beholders turn to stone because of the reflection by the cape. Although the description of the cape states that it reflects all spell damage back to the source, I think it reflects all magical projectiles back to the source!!

Actually the description says that it reflects damage causing spells.Daemion must be right about his comment.Nevertheless,i had no problems with beholders,or elder orbs (even the Unseeing eye) while i was equipped with the cloak.I beat them all and never got killed.I sweep all the Underdark Beholders in their dungeon using only my kavalier alone.

if you think you is tough, try handling the beholders in the fear test alone....you will get imprisoned

I DID that and they didn't imprison me.I don't know if it is pure luck or not.
