How to play Kensai/Mage ?

Many people on thhis forum said that Kensai/Mage is a good dual class. But how should it be played ? Start as a Kensai and then immediately dual class to a mage ? Or vice versa ? Or gain several levels as one class and then dual class to another? Could you explain please.........

Kensai first. There are a lot of powerful spells that enhance combat capabilities in BG2, so you want to be as high level a mage as possible to use them. The other way would work too, but I think the powerful spells make Mage second a better choice. By the way, the max level you can get to as fighter without it affecting your mage level is Ninth. Any more and you won't be able to reach full level as a mage. That works well for a Kensai, as it just gets an extra +1 to hit.
