Poll: underappreciated items?
Radishcat has asked what are our favorite items. I'd like to ask what people think are the most underappreciated items. They don't necessarily have to be super-powerful, but they should be something that people don't really talk much about but that have proven useful to you. In the favorites poll, I already mentioned Warblade +4, but I'll start off with three more weapons:
Spear +3, Impaler--The perfect weapon for Jahiera. Fast, druid-friendly, and VERY damaging.
Firetooth +3--a returning throwing dagger that does 2d4+3 damage. Ideal range weapon for the thief or mage on your christmas list.
Sling of Arvoreen +4--must-have for Aerie, since she can't use anything but slings and staffs anyway. Might as well make it badass.

I agree about that spear. When I first saw it I thought shit, thats a lot of damage, but I think Earcaraxe is right, it's cause no-one can use it (except maybe Valygar, I think?).
That helmet that lets you cast Simulacrum seems pretty good, although I only only just got it and haven't used it yet. An extra 60% Keldorn weilding a +5 two handed sword sounds good to me.

Yeah - the vhailor's helm (or something) would be great if it worked. Sometimes it just says 'save vs. spell' and nothing happens. And sometimes it works just fine (1 time out of 10)

It seems everyone expects Julov to appear in the Adventurer's Mart ... I'm not different in that respect.
It took me a while, but eventually I found him in the Coppor Coronet.
About Vhailor's Helm: did anybody ever got it to work? I understood that when you use its special ability (some death spell), you actually use it on yourself ... is this true??

The spear is perfect for Jahiera, you just have to give her the gauntlets of weapon expertise.
As for the bonus cd downloads, does anyone know a site where you can still get them? I'm supremely pissed at Bioware for starting this gaming caste system with the "bonus" and "collector's" editions and other such bullshit. I hope they don't set a precendent that becomes a norm.

I'd have to get drunk every night and talk about virility...And those Pink elephants I'd see.
Underappreciated Items:
Arbane's Sword: +2 early in game and a great combo with web. Still listed in as my monks favorite weapon when I look at his info.
Impaler: Agreed. This is THE most damaging weapon in the game. (Assuming Str 21 with most weapons and Str 25 with Crom Faeyr. Of course, Crom Faeyr can be wielded 1-h.)
I wouldn't have considered Firetooth underrated, but I guess it isn't talked about that much...even though it's a +3 throwing dagger hits like a flaming +3 bastard sword!
I've never been able to get Vailor's helm to work either.

Another underappreciated weapon that i liked very much is the Club +2 gnasher.I had Jaheira equipped with it.
Its main advantage is that after a successful hit,it continues to do damage to the target (2 points/round for 3 rounds).Ideal to disrupt enemy clerics-after they get some hits, they try to cast healing spells, but they are disrupted.Jaheira wiped out almost any cleric in one-to-one fight with it.
You may have noticed that the extra items you get from the bonus cd,are associated with IWD and Ps:T.But i think that they didn't implement some weapons as they were in these games. This applies especially to Dak'kon's Zerth blade.I read its statistics (havent't bought any of these weapons) and in its description i didn't found anything about its most useful ability:to gain levels along with its wielder.Or is this happening ? Does the blade gain levels as in Ps:T ? (from +1, to +2,+3 and granting additional extra spells-the ideal weapon for any fighter/mage like Dak'kon was)
As for Vhailor (a former Mercykiller, now an animated suit of armor obsessed with justice)he didn't have any special helmet (i think),but he had an excellent axe, called "Final Judgement" (I think a +4).Why they didn't implement this, since axes are not that powerful in BG2 ?

For anyone who's played Planescape you know that all the friends die on the negative plane, how exactly do any of that equipment end up in Athkalta. It's cool how they tried to advertise the other games it just doesn't make any sense

I hace discovered something since last I replied to this topic. Bladesinger chain. I think I do remember someone else mentioning it, but I haven't heard much about it. I guess it could be because most people who play Fighter/Mages seem to use the Kensai kit. Not me. And one of the things that annoyed me most about my Fighter/Mage (Pure class) was that he looked stupid: Gallabanting(?) around without any armour on. Now I suppose in game terms it's not THAT good, but now my character can look stylish prancing around in his shiny geen armour. (It is the best option for a fighter/mage, isn't it?)

You might want to give a try to the Drow Elven Chainmail +3 (+5 Magic Resistance & Reduces casting time by 1) or absolutely the best item for fighter / mages that I have found - the Drow Adamantium Chain +5 (which is also considered elvenchain). You just have to sneak them out of underdark.
btw. your thief can wear those too.

Mr Sleep : Actually you can resurect your companions before the final battle in Ps:T and aid you.Besides you can have them return safely back to Sigil. But you need high int and wisdom in order this option to be available to you.
Although the object descriptions in BG2 states that they all died, this is not true.Ps:T has at least 4 different endings.
