I can't get down to the second level of the ice temple for some strange and inexplicable reason. The doors won't unlock and I can't get through the door to the stairs by the painting.

Mary Willis,

next time you start a thread please give it a title that gives a hint about its content. Like: "Help with Ice Temple lvl1" or something. This has two advantages: those who are familiar with the area will immediatley run to help you :) , and if someone else has questions about it, he won't have to start a new thread but will be able to continue this one.

You might want to read the Useful Links and "Read before posting" threads if you haven't done so already, you'll find some useful information about IWD2 and using the forum there.

Thanks :)

As for the problem, try to chek the walkthrough to see if you have already completed the quests required to proceed to the next level.

Are you at the Kuldahar painting or the normal doors?

Couple clairifying questions may help here. I am sure someone will narrow this down before I do though. First of all, are you trying to go Up the stairs to level 2 or are you trying to go down the stairs to level one?
Also when you the stairs by the painting, you mean the one on the east side right? Do you get the option to say anything to the painting at all?
SPOILER Highlight to read, If on level two,
I think your problem is the doors are magicaly lock. You need to use the prism in the center to shot lightning bolts at various angles to open locked portals. Use the mirrors on the walls to guide your arcs.

Hey where is my post?

Well.. some doors will open only when you have done that ''Lysara dais'' thing.. even that i call it SACRIFICE ALTAR.. If you open doors to area 5 on that walktrough you should bé able to enter some of those locked rooms..

But still if nothing helps and you can do nothing to open certain doors..

Then just go to google and type IWD2 cheats.. and find teleport cheat. This way you should be able to continue playing this game.. if nothing else will work.
Hey where is my post?
I deleted it because its tone was intolerable.

Please be patient with others, or ignore them, if it's tiring for you to explain something.

Sorry

Didn't mean to start an argument. Anyway, I found an autosave from the beginning of rhe chapter so I just started it over again. I've never had that problem before as I recall, so I don't expect it'll happen again. I'll try to remember to be more explicit about my problem in future, though I hope not to have any more lol. :D Thanks to everyone for trying to help :)

@MaryW hey did you try the lightning bolt prism gun thing in the center room of the second level? You were on the second right? DId you review my post at all? Well you may try it, but if not I hope you have fun with your autosave.
Be safe, Auril is know to be a very cold entity with a chilling persona to match.

Actually I was on level one trying to get down to level two. But as long as I didn't have to start over from the beginning, it's all good lol. :D

It's not your fault at all! And this is not an argument - it's called moderating :p

Anyway, how does the previous save game work?

@Wrath: yes, trying to be polite is a good idea ;) Again I say, there's no problem with you in general, so don't take it as an offense, OK? Just be polite and respectful, that's all :)
