how do i multiplayer?

i dont know what LAN or IXP are, and dont understand how to play multiplayer on icewind dale 2. can i do it over the net? please help
It's easier if your friend is the host, so he starts the game on his computer - this way, you'll just have to choose "multiplayer" when starting a game, click on "join" and enter the name of the game (which your friend should let you know). It's easy, no need to know anything about LAN
If you start the game, you'll have to invite him to play via msn, for example (this is the way I usually do it) - you can choose the option from MSN's main menu.
