When is a good time to kill Renal Bloodscalp for his boots of speed?

I choose to take Bodhi's side. Is it too late at that point? He doesn't appear to be on the second floor anymore. where might i find him?

I want my party of 3 to all have legal boots of speed! does my laziness show?

Heh I wouldn't call it lazyness, I'd call it powergaming. Boots of speed turn anyone into a friggin unstoppable war machine.

Never killed Renal before so I can't help you out on that.

It's mainly to have all the characters keep up with eachother. I guess i have less patience than the average joe for walking around areas.

Increasing everyone's movement rate with SK never hurt anybody.....

Haste is also good.

Yes, i could constantly haste, but it would really make me have to rest a lot more, which is something i try to avoid doing too often.

I've never used shadowkeeper, prefering to work with what the game gives in the first place.

Once you side with Bodhi he's gone.

if you and when you do get them: put them on someone like minsc or valygar. They become excellent mage killers (and trust me, if your'e in SOA, you'll still ahve lotsa trouble with mages)

By the time you reach ToB, you should have five (not including Renal's) pairs of boots of speed. Of course, when you start a new game from Irenicu's dungeon, it's gonna seem as though everyone is really slow. Hate it when that happens

Five? I only know of the four found under Equipement on this site. Where can you get the other ones?

First Location: SOA Astral Prison
Second Location: Spellhold token Machine
Third Location: TOB Loot from Illasera
Fourth Location: TOB Seradush, Tankard Tree Purchased from Bartender
Fifth Location: It's either purchased from Lazarus Librarus from Arcana Archives or Sister Farielle from Waukeen's Temple. I forgot which one. But one of them has a pair to purchase.

There ya go, five pairs of boots. Plus the one from renal, so that's six I guess Nothing like a permanently hasted party to whoop ass

Of course, if your protagonist's a monk, you don't need the sixth pair of Boots of Speed

Or if one of your characters wear's the Grandmasters Armour +6 which also gives the same benefits as boots of speed

When can you kill Renal then?

If i try to attack him before making the choice i get some buff'd up backstabber hit me for over 130 hp. kills all my party immediatelyin a matter of a second.

To get the boots of speed from Renal u need to have sided with the shadow thieves, and to let the plot move on without ruining your game, make sure you are in chapter 6 before you try this. Then do this:

Once Arkanis is dead Renal is free for the killing/ looting. I dont know if this will work in TOB cause I believe they took out the brain drain of the shapechanged mindflayers (not positive though can anyone confirm if they did?).

If they did then drop Arkanis's saves with greater malison and then hit him with every mentality affecting spell u got, especially emotion, that spell seems to work good on him. He will be stunned so you got time to kill Renal, then hightail it out before he comes out of the spell affects. He wont chase you out of the building if you leave while he is still stunned...

Increasing your frame rate is also an alternative to slow parties. Not going to make everyone go the same speed but it's nice to get the game moving quicker.

KensaiRyu: Thanks, that's answers my question perfectly. I'm thinking the dex drain sword will do the same as the Mind Flayer idea, since you die when any of your attributes hit 0. Will have to try it out in another game. when a little too far in this game now to turn back. I figured allying with Bodhi was the only way to get them.
