The remake of Pirates is indeed good, although it is much more simple then I had hoped.
I did play it extensively for a month or so, but then it started to become to repetitative and dull, and I had to shelve it. But of course, 1 month is longer playtime then most other single player games gives me in this day and age
I agree with the more simplistic gameplay, and frankly - I did expect much more from Sid Meyer and this current age, when looking at the development Civilization had taken.
It seems as if it has been made ready for a port to console or something.
But it is still one of the best single player games I've played in a long time, and can only advice people to buy it.
But I loved that the introduced dancing into the romance of governor's daugthers - fun little thingy that actually was one of the harder things in the game (untill you learned the sequences by memoery)
The introduction of special items and crew specialists is also nice, but have a tendencty to make the game rather easy to play.
I quickly had to move to the second highest difficult to simply get a little feel for opponents in the game. I didn't move to highest, because then it wasn't the game that got harder, but simply "you" that got slower, which made many things absolutly annoying instead of harder.
The AI is poor in this game in my view.
A huge example of where the game is to simple is with the main "villians" you hunt througout the game (not some random reward villians hiding in a tavern, or the other named pirates of the game).
(very small spoiler)
When tracking down your 4 lost relatives you continuesly hunt the same named villian, each and every time and have to capture him over and over..... now if I have to capture a guy, I'd might as well extract all information from him the first time instead of capturing the same guy 16 times
Likewise when tracking down the main bad guy in the game, you have to capture him several times over and over.
As well as with romancing, then the governor's daugther - then they will get kidnapped .... by the same named villian.
This means there are 3 "main" villians that each have their own name - but you capture them over and over.
