I did something really stupid last night.

I was writing down my stats for my character for the thread here(which I conveniently forgot to bring) and I decided to play with my new character. So I played for a while with him, and I had to go to the store. So I go to save my game and as I'm watching the little save bar grow(I play MW on xBox) I noticed that I accidentally was saving over my old character, my favorite character.

I panicked. I didn't know what to do, so I did exactly what the screen told me not to do. I hit the power button while the game was saving.

I'm wondering what will happen. I haven't had the guts to turn the machine back on. I'm thinking one of four things will happen:
1> I'll lose my new character's save.
2> I'll lose my old character
3> I'll lose both.
4> My xBox will be screwed up.

I'm willing to deal with all but door #4.

Anyone have any thoughts?

Personally i would say that you will get door number four.

But if Xbox works like my old game boy.. you will have your new character.

Whew! What a relief. The new character was really new and I was going to lose the old one anyway. I just didn't want to damage my box.

Somethin' similar once happened to me, and having turned of my box, I turned it on, and they were both still there. I guess it has something to do with how far into saving it is when you pull the plug.

Remember the good ol' days of Gameboy when we could pull the plug whenever we wanted? ;)

Mayhap it is that you might want to start a thread about this?

Jopperm, I've nothing constructive to add, just my sympathies. Due to a recent harddisk blow-up I lost my very first MW-character. Although I did the MW-main quest and finished both Bloodmoon and Tribunal, with all the wonderful mods out there there was still plenty to do. =Sniff=. I'll miss that sneaky backstabbing Bosmer.

I did the very same thing on Battles for middle earth not too long ago. I had almost finished the game (i believe) and was ready to march on the black gate. however i wanted to try the evil campain, since i was a bit tired of the good one. of course, when i saved my evil campain, i accidentaliy overwrote the good campain, thus forcing me to start over.

That really sucked. You have my deepes sympathies.

This is another reason for playing on a PC, and making regular backups. Sorry Jop, but losing those two characters - I'd be heartbroken if I lost Zar!

Well, I started up my box again..
The new save wasn't there as I figured and my old save had converted to a 2 block save that under the description said "bad save game."
There is a good piece of news though. I had an Autosave from my old character that I didn't know about.. :D I also had a much older save for my new character. So no character is really gone. I'll write this one off as a win.. ;)

Prehibitation

I had this once with Pokemon. It really sucks. That is why I save my good characters (the ones from which I think will make progress) twice, for example:

-Oblivion the Altmer
-Oblivion the Altmer Extra Save

Lucky, lucky man! :) That will teach you to make backup saves. Or play on a PC. :p

Well, I ussually just make 30 billion saves and label them by what I'm doing and where. That ussually helps prevent from over writing files and telling them apart.

I just make a file for each character once, if my characters go down the drain, then I shall persevere. Despite the heart-ache and trouble of starting a new character, I have made a new character because my old stuffed up the main quest... please pity me, pity me, pity me, pity me..... :(
